@Riley143:  I have an alexandrite too! And I love it…just wondering how you got the pic of the red/purple colour…can’t seem to catch it in a pic

Here’s my custom made e-ring. 18ct white gold with two diamonds and three rubies. The rubies are from a ring my grandmother got from my grandfather on her 17th birthday some 75 years ago. She’s passed away now, but as we were really close I wanted to incorporate these stones somehow.

@anyday:  Beautiful! The diamonds in my ring are from FI’s grandmother (who has also passed away) and your ring reminds me of the wedding band I’m having made to go with mine, using more of his grandmother’s diamonds. My e-ring looks like this:

And my wedding band is going to look similar to this:

All of these color e-rings are so beautiful! I’ve always wanted a color instead of the white diamonds because they just seem so boring and normal (no offense to those ladies who have them, I’m just not a very traditional girl!). I am curious to know how most of you got the color rings instead of traditional? Did you outright tell your Fiance your preferences, hint around about it, or help pick it out?

@jadejess:  It is family tradition for me, my great-grandmother had garnet and my grandmother and mother, rubies.  I mentioned fairly early on that I was hoping for a ruby someday too.  DH picked out the setting all on his own though.

@jadejess:  I helped my FH pick mine out…actually we had it made by a local jeweller. FH doesn’t like to pick out anything for me without my input because he wants it to be something that I love. We actually went and picked out the stone first and then found a ring design we liked to mount it in. If you look at the pics I posted, the wedding ring fits inside the rails of the e-ring(there is just a spacer in there for now so e-ring doesn’t get bent).

We were originally looking at emerald because I wanted colour but found out that they are fairly ‘soft’ stones. Sapphires are my birthstones and I have lots already so when we found out about the colour changing of alexandrite (with the hardness) we were both sold on it.

Mine are at the jewelers being sized down and soldered together. 🙁 I’ll get them back this weekend. My ring finger is soooo nekkid! 😉

Here is the last pic I took of them … my natural, peach-champagne sapphire in a 14K rose gold diamond halo with diamond band. <3
