We are doing sand and found this really nice, custom shadowbox.

@kdjess84:

We also chose unity sand — a set that included one large vessel and three smaller vases for three different colors of sand: white, for the pastor to pour on the bottom and top layers, representing God as the foundation and covering for our marriage; and one color to represent each of us.

I went to one where they sampled wine and chocolate together.  The wine was for the sweet moments they would share in the future, and the chocolate (bittersweet) was to remind them of the more bitter moments when they would have to be each other’s strength.

I’ve been to another one where they gave each person a stone to hold during the ceremony.  At a certain point, the officient asked everyone present to set a prayer on the stone for the couple (I wished for them to have healthy, happy children).

The couple now has the stones in a dish on their coffee table.

I’ve seen a “unity cocktail.” They each mixed in ingredients and then took a sip! Cute if you like cocktails.

Our minister did a hand blessing during our ceremony! It was similar to this.

We are skipping this altogether, my SO doesn’t want to do the unity candle or sand thing and I was ok with it. Once less think we need to buy or DIY. 🙂

we are doing a tree planting ceremony. we are having a small oak tree in a planter, then during the ceremony i will be adding dirt from my childhood home and he will be adding dirt from his, then we will be planting the tree at our new home. i like it because it symbolizes our two families joining together, and it something we can have forever and watch it grow and flourish. anybody can PM me if you want to read the text we are using 🙂
