@futuremrslocke:  The unity candle isn’t a Catholic tradition either.  The Church’s tradition is also that the Bride and Groom enter the Church together, and they also don’t encourage anyone giving the bride away (as the bride gives herself; she is no one’s property).  All that is straight out of our marriage prep materials.  What they also say, is that they will change just about anything in accordance with “local custom.”  The unity candle falls into that category, as do lots of other things.  It should be a pretty easy sell; I don’t expect you’ll encounter any resistance, unless you have a particularly ornery priest.
