So we would like to book Universal hilton, but they told me that the space hasn’t been released yet and they cant confirm whether I can get the space or not. Right now, I’m in the system to book the place, but we dont have confirmation on the space and they said they cant confirm it until its released, which is in April. Have any of you guys encountered this?

I had the exact same problem; they told me that their conference office had priority over the space, and that they wouldn’t know whether we could book until the conference folks for sure didn’t need the ballroom. Overall I found the Hilton folks to be terrible to work with — they never returned emails or phone calls, were utterly unhelpful about whether their space was available or not, and seemed to be fractured into so many depts., each with their own domain, that it was impossible to coordinate anything with them. I finally had to get a family friend, who is close with the owner of the San Gabriel Hilton, to call the Universal just to get the Universal to return my phone calls and tell me whether they were available. A nightmare. And if I remember correctly, Mrs. Daffodil had an even more egregious experience, in which they promised her a date and then reneged on their promise months into her wedding planning (search for her post on this). My sense is that they care very little about customer service, and feel very much like they can do what they want since they are the only hotel in that area to offer a Chinese banquet. Grr.

I actually have the same problem. The person that I talked to gave me the same run around about not having the space release. I was initially "booked" for November 21. I thought is was strange when she told me I didn’t need to come in and sign a contract until the summer and that it was too far away to worry. Now she gave me a call saying that they have a convention contracted for that day and they have to move my date. The thing is she says that I have an October date and that it may be available but the director has not released the date. I asked her why other people can be booked and mine can’t. Her answer was something about total revenues. I think it’s still BS because my party is pretty large. Not sure what total revenues they are wanting. I was beginning to sound like a bridezilla when I was talking to her.
