Worker bee
I am trying to cut corners any way possible, and I am thinking of things that I really don’t need. I think about weddings that I have been to, and things that I don’t remember are things I’m cutting out.
For example, I’m not doing:
favors
wedding programs
bouquet/ garter toss
flowers for centerpieces (too expensive for me, using centerpieces from a friends recent wedding)
This is not meant to knock anyone who is using these things; they’re great if you have the money for them! What things do you all feel like are unnecessary??

honeysag79: Unity ceremony items (sand, candles, etc). I got everything for a sand ceremony, put it all out, and neglected to add it into the copy of the officiant’s program so we didn’t even do it. We faked it afterward for pictures but it was completely unncessary. You also don’t need
toasting flutes, a fancy seating chart (I just printed ours on printer paper, glued them to scrapbook sheets, stuck them in $1 frames, and voila),
“premium” bar (well drinks served the purpose just fine at our wedding),
plated dinner (we did a buffet and no one died),
photobooth (we didn’t have one and no one missed it),
limo (we rode in the hotel shuttle with everyone else and the world didn’t end)

I think a guestbook is kind of unecessary too. I don’t think I would ever look at it again, and I think it can sometimes cause a backup of people when people are entering the reception, so we just skipped that.

Adding expensive stationery and excessive flowers to decorate ceremony space, for centerpieces, for parents, for groomsmen…

- Wedding: July 2014 - Backyard
For us, these were not must-haves (again, just for us, no judgement):
Wedding party, Maid/Matron of Honor or Bridesmaid or Best Man
Guest Book
Favors
Programs
Guest book (having a large group photo instead)
paper invites, STDs, etc.
veil
hairpiece, like a birdcage or something
decor (we went super minimal)
receiving line
engagement photos
reception stuff like dancing, toasts, etc. We are just having pizza and beer and hanging out!
