Does anyone know about sizing for Alfred sung d479 in peau de soie. My sister is normally a US size 14 but she carries all her weight aroud her tummy. The skirt is flared so this will leave room for hips. She has small hips anyway. I am wondering is this material generous or small fiting. Not sure whether to order a size bigger but she is small on top and has small hips so would ideally like to avoid any alterations. She is also about 5 ft five so isnt very tall.

Isn’t there a size chart that you can compare her measurements to?

I Tthought someone would have some advise about the sizing as it can be hard to judge the american sizes and different fabrics have different fits. thanks anyway.

More so than the fabric, what matters is the cut of the dress and where it’s most fitted. If this dress has a fitted waist but a flared skirt, you don’t really need to worry about her hip measurement, but her bust and waist measurement will be more important. With an Empire-style dress, the bust is really the only measurement that matters. For a slinkier-cut dress, all three measurements will be a factor. Clingy fabric makes a little bit of difference, but the biggest factor is the cut.

She will need to order bigger. My sister, who is normally US size 14 as well, ordered D500 and they moved her up to a 18W. Her issues were similar, flared skirt so hips didn’t matter and smaller chest, just a little bit of a tummy. I can tell you that a 36″ waist is within the measurements for 18W size. I only have her measurement not the range from Dessy, but it’s like a 2″-3″ range.
Peau de soie isn’t a fabric that has much stretch to it and the waist on your dress looks like a natural waist with a tight fitting to the neck top, so I would err on the side of caution and go bigger.
Hope this helps a little.
