If I knew you in real life I would bomb you with confetti, bee!  I’m so happy to hear this.  Definitely let us know how the 6 week test goes.

I am so happy for you! What wonderful news!

I did a quick Google search to answer your question. From what I understand, if you got a negative test now, you are probably negative. Something like 5% of the population takes longer for the antibodies to show up, hence taking a test at a later date.

keikochan :  Yay for so far, so good news! I worked for a surgeon who had an accidental needle stick during surgery. The patient he was operating on was HIV+. Lucky, after drugs, he was fine. I think you’re going to be just fine too.

Oh, bee! I’m so relieved for you. I’m looking forward to your 6-week update.

What you’re asking about is the intersection of two events. For you to get a positive result in 2 weeks, 2 unlikely things would have to happen. First, you would have to have contracted HIV (and you mentioned earlier a 0.3% chance). Second, you would have to be one of the 5% of people who take more than 28 days to develop antibodies detectable by the test. For intersections of events, you multiply the probabilities.

Probability of a positive test at 6 weeks = 0.003 x 0.05 = 0.00015 = 0.015%

You’ve gone from 0.3% to 0.015% already, so celebrate!
