Lots of diapers and wipes!  Get some baby bath wash and lotions.  I would imagine that they’re gonna go through that stuff like crazy with two babies.  Also, maybe some baby bottles, pacifiers, baby blankets 🙂

@texasbee:  Lots of diapers and wipes. They are the most costly and will help them out a ton!

If they are struggling financially and also do not have a lot of space, maybe things like gift cards to the local super market or to a chain baby store would be helpful?  If you are in a position to do so, things like carseats can be pretty expensive and everyone HAS to have them, so that would be a good option as well. Or what about a pack’nplay?  I have 2 and LOVE them 🙂  I would try to focus on stuff they absolutely NEED and nothing that is just a cutesie toy item.  When they are a bit bigger and in a better financial position maybe get something more “fun”.

I agree with getting them things they need and might find affordable. They probably won’t need a ton of baby clothes right away since they’ll be in onesies most of the time.

With the financial/living situation I might move away from traditional baby shower gifts to more practical household gifts.  If they get their own place do they have: vaccum, broom, laundry baskets, dish soap, laundry detergent, some basic plates/cutlery/glasses, bathroom cleaner, etc?  If money is that tight, and they’ve been living with someone else and using their supplies, they may really appreciate some basic items that will help them set up a household.

Are there any consignment baby clothing shops where you live? Getting them more clothes at a cheaper price might help. And like the others said.. practical things they NEED. Congrats on becoming an Auntie of twins! (Also.. not sure if you have a target nearby but a couple days ago they had baby ties and bowties for like 2 bucks each marked down if you want to get a cute totally uncessary cheap gift:)
