Please keep Joplin, MO in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days. I can’t even begin to put into words the devastation there.
I grew up less than an hour away from Joplin, and have family and friends there – people who have lost absolutely everything in the blink of an eye. My friend didn’t even hear the sirens over the hail, and lost her home, her belongings, and her cat.
Another friend was working as a nurse in the hospital when the tornado left it completely useless – she spent 12 hours evacuating patients by sliding them on mattresses down stairwells. She is such a hero.
My heart is beyond broken for them. So much devastation and loss in such a short amount of time, with more bad weather predicted in the coming days. The death toll is at 116, and they estimate between 30%-50% of the city is entirely destroyed.
I will be joining my family tomorrow in Joplin to help volunteer, however I can. Please pray and if you are able to help, go to Joplin, MO Tornado Relief on Facebook to find out ways you can help.
Thanks! Lots of love,

Oh my gods.
Sorry, but my first thought was “Poor kitty!”
Your friend is amazing, by the way, it takes a special person to really rise up and tirelessly help those around them until they are near exhaustion.
I’m glad you are going to help. I imagine it would probably be very hard mentally/emotionally for you, but it’s really amazing for you to go. Not everyone can commit to that much, but we can stay behind and give you our support.
Good luck and stay safe!

I know, so terrible. Luckily there are so many people taken in the animals that are being found, and there is a great Facebook site that is posting pictures of lost and found animals. I have all the faith that they are going to be reunited.

I’m so sorry. Your friend is most definitely a hero. This is just horrible news and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy 🙁

I am sorry for all their loss. We just got an above ground tornado shelter put in today (we basically live in a fancy-pants trailer house) because my FIL/landlord has been concerned with everything going on in the south. I consider southern MO to be south.
And maybe they will find their cat? I know a lot of animals were found in AL after their tornado. Once again, I’m so sorry that they had to go thru that. My great grandmother’s house and my school were destroyed in 2004 by a rain wrapped tornado. Scary stuff.

@Linz1231: Hi Lindsay. Although I do not know anyone that was directly affected by the tornado, I do feel deep heartache and worry for those in Joplin. I will continue to keep everyone in my prayers as they embark on their journey of recovery. Please be careful as you help others. You and your friends are such caring and strong people! God Bless!!

Joplin will continue to need thoughts and prayers!! Very depressing to live in the city right now. But, it is good to see everyone working together and fixing things up. I know many people who lost their homes/jobs/everything. The death toll is up to 146. I’m sure you have all seen pictures on the news, but those pictures don’t even begin to describe the devastation here. Please continue praying for the members of my community!!
