Umm reasons? If you care to share.  I am sorry for this and hope everything works out the way you envision it.

I’m so sorry. ๐Ÿ™ My sister, who was supposed to be my Maid/Matron of Honor, bailed on my wedding by never calling, answering her phone, or showing up at rehearsal. She didn’t show up at the wedding, either. That was almost two months ago, and I still haven’t heard from her. I was her Maid/Matron of Honor… I just don’t understand people. You’re right, you can’t pick your family members, but you can make your own family with supportive friends!

Another bee had this same problem recently! I think that is such a strange reason to back out of a wedding, sorry for being so blunt. I would assume there is something else going on that she wants to hide from you or doesn’t want to talk to you about as she did it over email and is now hiding from you. It could be as simple as being jealous disguised as some ‘problem’ with you, or maybe she’s having trouble at home and doesn’t want to admit it.

I am sorry this happened and I hope that with time your sister will come out from hiding and tell you the real reason she backed out, if only to save your relationship. Focus on the positives, this is not your fault!

This has happened to me on my wedding day – and Layla is right: you can’t pick your family members, but you can make your own family with supportive friends!.  Well said.  I have felt so rich and loved since growing up and building my own life, and the people that do come on that day will show you how much you are loved.

My sister called me twenty minutes before the ceremony and left me a message telling me she “felt crappy” and wasn’t coming. I haven’t heard from her since and the wedding was five months ago. You’re not alone.

She lied about cancelling dinner!? Is she just ashamed to have to face you?  Is there some major jealousy over you having a child?

I know you said you couldn’t talk to your mom about it originally because she doesn’t believe in weddings (or something like that, sorry I don’t remember the details), but now that it involves the holidays as well, could you talk to her and see if she knows what’s up?

Who is still invited to her Christmas dinner?  Is it only his family?  Is there anyone else from your family going?

Did you see her husband recently?  Did someone else in your family do or say something that was perfectly acceptable but he didn’t like for some silly reason?

Wow. She lied about canceling dinner just so you wouldn’t come? That sounds like it was extremely painful! I’m so sorry ๐Ÿ™

I can’t believe she did that!  At this point I don’t think you have an option but to go on without her.  I don’t know what she’s hiding or what the issue is, but obviously she does not want to deal with the situation.  Why oh why do sisters have to be so incredibly difficult????

Wow…this is a crazy situation to be in…I just hope that when you talk to her she will be truthful and honest about why she does not want to be in your wedding….
