Thanks for this! I keep meaning to have a “no spend month” and can’t even seem to do that.

I am REALLY going to try for August. This sounds so positive.

I’d love to hear more!

What are the specifics of your rules? IE is starbucks considered a frivolous item? What about (ex) organic fruit/veg or other “fancy” type things? Going out to restaurants, etc?

What are you doing with the savings? Is it making a big impact?

This is really awesome. I think it’s a great exercise in self-discipline and introspection. I’m inspired!

sparklyglitterbee :  That’s soo awesome! I’m very impressed!!

I’ve been doing a low-rule no buy this year. So I bought new shorts for my vacation (since others didnt fit!), but haven’t bought regular clothes. I’ve not really purchased anything for the house (my guilty pleasure is expensive cookware!). I’ve also cut back on my drinking to buy less alcohol (lol) and grocery and meal plan to shop better. I still spend way too much on food/snacks/liquor, but I’ve saved a few extra thousand this year from cutting back. And also just being mindful of it. Once I found out HOW MUCH I was wastefully spending it was easier to cut back. $5 starbucks adds up REALLY quick!

This is so rad!! Maybe if I hit my weightloss goals by the end of the year, I can do the same next year. Get my wardrobe all set and pew! Off to the races.

Thank you for sharing this update!!

Awesome, bee! Thank you for the update. I haven’t been on a no-buy year, but I have been really cognizant of tracking finances and saving money for a house downpayment lately. There are still a lot of areas I could cut back, but even with some small tweaks it’s gratifying to see the savings account balance rising steadily. Congratulations on your awesome progress!
