Ummmmmm… what? Why is the Belize government sending you a Harpy Eagle? Lolol. As a wildlife biologist, I find that extremely hard to believe. They are a protected species and certainly not a pet.

Sorry for your loss.   But is this the ex that sent you a parrot?

It may explain why he gave you the gift but not why you accepted a $6000 bird from an ex whom you believed at the time to be in no position to afford it.

@KittyYogi:  is right. These are an endangered species, not domesticated birds or meant to be owned as a pet.

Why are the Belizian government sending you a Harpy Eagle? Is it part of some relocation programme?

I absolutely mean no disrespect but everything about this is ironically odd

This is meant to poke fun, I’d assume? If so, poor job, and please don’t accept the harpy eagle from the government, either.

So you must be a federally permitted wildlife rehabilitator? Otherwise it is illegal to even pick up and keep an eagle feather found in the wild, let alone house a bird. In your previous thread you say that you have a graduate degree in ornithology and work with birds of prey as a career, but that is significantly different from being a federally permitted wildlife rehabilitator. I’d imagine the gov’t of Belize knows you through a University? Countries are not in the habit of gifting individual citizens (and not organizations) engangered animals, so why would they have gifted you this rare bird?

@creance:

Leaving aside the dead ex, the whole engagement gift idea, why in the name of goodness would the Belize Givernment be giving you a bird belonging to an endangered species , which is also a bird of prey and utterly unsuited to being a pet?

In another thread you describe yourself as an ornithologist with special focus on birds of prey, l wonder why you didn’t mention that here? And, if it is the case, why would you even consider having an eagle in captivity ……

This whole thing is so bizarre you will have to enlarge upon it if you want anything other than bemused disbelief .

I am very much hoping the absurdity about the harpy eagle means this is all fake because if it’s not, it’s hella fucked up to mention an ex dying and then immediately say “life is good” and “life couldn’t be better.”
