Hi ladies, I met with my dressmaker the other day to tease out the dress style dilemma.
As confirmed by so many of your votes, I’m going with the Alicia Benay style, generally.
The dressmaker suggested some improvements to avoid the dreaded false pregnancy look: we’re going to use a thick 3 or 4 inch band of crochet/lace (same as shoulders) to give a more defined waistline and reduce the more Empire line-ish tendencies of the dress. Which should hopefully look something in the ballpark of the second dress waist area, sort of. Sorry so unclear!
Anyhoo I’m delighted, I’ll have a pretty dress that doesn’t add 20 pounds, I’ll be able to wear a proper (straps!!) bra, and the whole thing is costing me roughly 400 euro: about $500, I think.
Quite where that money is going to come from I can’t tell you, but I’ll make it happen! Dress make starts late March, finished to collect ca 22nd April, leaving a two week window for any last minute adjustments. So that’s where we’re at! Thanks for all of your help, it really made a difference – answering everyone’s questions made me think it through properly.
