Well Ladies. I tried my best to create suspense. I tried my best. I really did.
Story time: We were in Disneyland for two days on Friday and Saturday. I had the strong inclination that he would do it there and on Saturday night. We had reservations for the Blue Bayou (the restaurant inside the Pirates of the Carribean) and then fireworks. We went back to the room before the reservation so I knew it would be a good time to pick up the ring.
I got the Surf and Turf and the Fiance (ah yeah, I get to call him that) got the filet mignon. I was super nervous and anxious because I know that my nosy self would gawk at anyone getting engaged at a restaurant. Near the end of our meal, Sarah Hyland, the actress who plays Hailey Dumphy on “Modern Family” is seated in the table over. We lock eyes as she immediately covers her face. I was distracted by this for the rest of the meal because I hardly if ever see people in person that I watch on TV every week.
So, if you didn’t know already, they give a chocolate mousse for celebrations. Our waitress brought over the celebration mousse and said “Congratulations on your engagement…”
Me: “He hasn’t done it yet.”
Fiance plops the ring box on the table like a boss. Says nothing.
Fiance I think says something about dreams coming true.
Waittress: “I am so sorry…”
Me staring to instigate the actual popping of the question.
Fiance: “Will you marry me?”
Me: “Yes.” *start involuntarily shaking*
Our waittress was still freaking out, thinking she botched the proposal. It was actually good the way it happened because I did not expect the waittress to lead off like that. She felt so bad we got 20% off and a significantly upgraded dessert. As soon as it happened, I thought there was a strong chance we would get our meal comped but alas, Disney wins, every time. We had a gift card so it all worked out.
Overall, it didn’t go as planned but it’s a good story and Fiance doesn’t feel cheated out of the experience at all. Plus, we had a celebrity there. Well, she was sitting there. Didn’t notice. I even mentioned her on Twitter. Nothing. People at the neighboring tables saw it happen and were gawking. One lady gasped louder than I did.
Overall, it feels like a giant relief and a smidge anti-climatic. I knew a lot of the details beforehand and we have been talking a lot about marriage so it wasn’t a huge change. It just validates it for us.
So, with no further ado…ring porn.
