You’re doing the right thing.  Those people will be so happy to have their cat back.  Best early Christmas present ever.

I don’t know if you saw the thread recently about those people who found a little girl’s Yorkie puppy and wouldn’t give it back? Don’t be those people.

You are doing the right thing, but I too would question why they hadn’t done anything to find him……. hmmmm

@unixfairy:  Well if he shows up at your house again, or repeatedly I think it’s safe to say they won’t come looking for him.

Poor Truffles, that makes me sad.  But you did the right thing.  However, if he shows up again I’m not so sure I’d be running to return him……

Eh, just like not everyone goes, “ZOMG! BABY!” not everyone looks at a pet and thinks, “You’re my baby.”  In fact, I would say that’s a relatively recent development as far as history goes.  A lot of people still view an animal as a companion, a pet, something you “own,”  I mean, after all, you pay for them.  It’s not a reason to feel sad for an animal, unless they’re neglected, or abused.  It’s just a different situation.  That said, I am glad that the people got their pet back, you did the right thing.

@unixfairy:  I have a cat too and if he got lost I would be disraught. If someone went through the trouble of tracking me down and taking him home I don’t think I could ever thank them enough.

So I think you are a wonderful person that deserves the best karma 🙂

@unixfairy:  I just read your update, this is so sad… If I were you I would go and take him…  lure him out of the house and into your car 😉

You’re doing the right thing.  And who knows…if the owners go out of town maybe they will let you keep Truffles for them.  🙂

You did the right thing, even if the owners were anything less than over the moon to see Truffles return. I’ve tracked down 2 owners of dogs who showed up at my doorstep. One owner was out of town for 4 days and said (not asked) that I should just keep the dog and he’d call me when he was back in town. After a week I called the owner and he said to drop the dog off as his house – about 5 miles away – he didn’t even bother to come get the dog himself! When I arrived, the dog would NOT get out of my car and the guy screamed at the dog who was shaking badly and then the guy threw it back in his yard. I will never forget the look on the dog’s face when I pulled away. The owner didn’t so much as thank me for taking care of his dog for an entire week, or show an ounce of emotion towards the dog. That really messed me up for a while and I felt like knocking on his door and saying “you know what, I really fell in love with your dog, is there any way I could watch her when you go away again?” and then just keep her. I have several animals and it just wasn’t possible to add a 3rd dog so I never did, but I wish I could have. If Truffles was such a sweetie then go over there and lure the cat back to your place.

The other story is a bit better. The dog was an older dog and the owner was looking all over the place for him and when she pulled up to my house to pick up the dog she was in tears and the dog yanked the leash out of my hand in excitement.

Something tells me that Truffles will be back on your doorstep soon. I doubt they will stop letting him out, and now he knows where to go.

That breaks my hearrrrrrrt. I wish you could’ve kept him! The owners obviously aren’t pet people and don’t deserve him.
