Welp… he had been bringing stuff up about getting married.
Such as me making a comment about an old ring being too big now and needing resizing (honestly.. no hinting, it was in the process of falling off and I just commented)… and he said “Well, you’ll be getting a new one soon.”
We were at Best Buy and I was looking at cameras and I mentioned saving up for a new one, and he said “Well, why don’t you just wait, we could always put that on a registry.”
Stuff like that – it’s been almost daily and I just wouldn’t respond to his comments.
Finally I broke down and said “Okay, what’s going on? We’ve got photos coming up and your time limit lapsed!” (I thought it was him just procrastinating, and I’ve been getting pretty frustrated with him.)
Well he finally broke down and told me that there were problems setting my beautiful sapphire.
Apparently it has a small chip (undetectable to the naked eye) and the setters were afraid that when they tried to set it, it could shatter the stone. So for weeks he talked to everyone that he could at the jewelry store. Finally someone REALLY experienced at the store said that it could be done. I guess it’s all set now.. and he has the ring!
That’s why the time limit lapsed! Here I was being a selfish jerk and there was a legitimate problem!
So I apologized over and over – and now I’m back to patiently waiting and actually being excited now! He’s going to contact our photographer and see if our date is still saved, and he’s going to set up a meeting soon with her for a week or so post engagement – since he knows when it’ll be and I don’t.
So now I’m no longer stressing about the ring, money, or the looming engagement photos. I can sit back and enjoy it!
Moral of the story – sometimes it needs to be talked about!
