I met a man today that had a horrible brain injury. He fell into a water foutain and injured the front of his brain, and then fell backwards and hit the back of his head so hard that it injured the back of his head, too. He can’t remember what happened the 18 months after his injury… but he’s alive, he can drive his car, he can do pretty much anything. He had to retire from his job early because he has some memory issues, (He has trouble with names and numbers, and he was a nurse) but he came back from his injury and is still a functioning human being.

I have hope for Justin, and you. I am sending you all my love.

Thank you for taking time to update. My uncle was hit while on his motorcycle when I was a kid. l’ll spare you the details, except to say that there were massive head injuries, lots of hospital time, and many surgeries. I will say that no, he did not make a “full” recovery. He is not exactly the same as he was before. He has permanent brain damage. However, he can still drive, take care of himself, interact with others in what would be considered a normal manner, etc. Anyone who knew him before can tell he is different now, but in essentials he is the same person he always was. That is the greatest gift. I just wanted to share are this with you so that you know there is still hope, even without a ‘full” recovery. The brain is a miraculous thing, and we still don’t fully understand it. There is ALWAYS room to be surprised, to be proven wrong, and for miracles.

@Macintosh:  Thank you so much for the update.  I’m glad to hear he’s stable and I’m still praying for a miracle.  I totally understand how your thoughts drift to the TWW and the “what if” – I’d be doing the same.  *BIG HUGS*

Glad to hear he is stable. I hope so badly for you that he makes a miraculous recovery. I also wanted to echo several PPs who knew people who recovered from such injuries. I had a friend who was in a car accident and in a coma for 1-2 months (don’t remember how long) and woke up with the language skills of a toddler, but recovered a few months later and if you met her now there is no way you would be able to tell that such a thing happened to her. Crossing my fingers that a similar miracle finds its way to Justin and you.
