Happy to update you all that we got a venue. It isn’t the one that the kind Ms. Z suggested but got us set on a path of looking. The venue we are getting is a BEAUTIFUL ballroom that holds up to 230 people and they will provide all chairs, linens, tables, and we can use the space the night before for rehearsal.
They also will provide a bartender and cash bar, which is a bit of a bummer because the drinks will be more expensive than the $1/$2 we were planning but now we have no worries about the legal issues you all mentioned.
For all of that it is $800 but when we started looking at tables and chairs and linens we probably wouldn’t have saved that much doing it at a park anyway. We’ll still have a 5 PM ceremony and a dessert reception. Our bridal party is going to help us set up the night before at the rehearsal. It is all working out!

Have you decided what you are going to do about food? Or does the venue cover this?

glad you found a place and if your still gonna do a desert reception make sure you have LOTS of choices! and maybe a couple of cheese and fruit platters…and dont forget to tell your guests to eat prior to coming….and make sure you have some sort of music, wether its a dj or an ipod, or like me my computer and stereo with a friend running it…something to get people moving and make it feel like a party!

@KLDMLO: That is great news! Glad to hear it is all going to work out! I agree with PP that if at all possible provide some sort of food – whether it’s cheese and crackers, sandwiches, or pizza. It’s just that with a 5:00 wedding your guests will most likely not have eaten dinner, and dessert may not be quite enough especially if they will be drinking!

OP and are you positive none of your guests are diabetics? you may need to provide some sugar free options like the cheese and etc. I would need something more substantial to eat. If you let your guest know dinner was not being served they could eat between cermony and reception.

Yay! So happy that you got this figured out in time! Will you still have the ceremony outside or did you switch it to inside the new venue? Post recap pics if you can and good luck to you.
