I need to thank each and every one of you who commented on my last post – I took everyone’s combined advice and tried it with my Fiance when he picked me up yesterday. IT WORKED! We had an amazing breakthrough, I’m so serious.
We went to Borders to get coffees first, and I pulled out a bunch of different design magazines and flipped through them. I asked him how he imagined our dream home, and what colors he liked, and what style, and then I just let him talk. At first he was like, “I don’t know, I just don’t want flowers and stuff, I’m sorry babe,” and then I kept nodding my head and finally he got into the conversation and looked REALLY excited the more he spoke!
Finally, he asked me what I wanted, and I told him, and he was encouraging of me as well. Basically, he’s drawn to simple, clean lines and, yes, he loves navy blue and green and bits of brown. I’m into the beach house look, with some French accents.
So we flipped through magazines, and I mentioned that we need to compromise and maybe even register by room to start. He said we should begin with the kitchen, and I agreed.
THEN he turns to a page in a magazine, and says, “This red kitchen is awesome, check it out.” I loved it. Then he went on his iPhone and we started pulling up more red kitchen photos online… and eventually we found THIS:
Don’t ask me why, but the second we found this, we started saying, “That’s it. That’s IT. Let’s go!” and we went back to Macy’s, then Bed Bath and Beyond, then Crate and Barrel, and we have almost all of our kitchen stuff and fine and casual china under control!
I have no idea how we got from clean contemporary with a navy obsession plus a French beach house look to a glam red kitchen with black granite. NO. CLUE. But we’re so happy! lol
Thank you to everyone, once again, for reminding me how to communicate like an ADULT and stop allowing myself to get frustrated the second Fiance and I have a disagreement. I appreciate your help and time so much! 🙂
