YAY!! It’s happening, bees, and it’s happening fast! Before April most likely! See below for why.
In my original post regarding this (can’t seem to link back to it) I discussed my parents adopting yet another daughter. I will now happily be the first of five. 🙂 They had originally planned on adopting another little girl a year or two younger than my youngest (adopted) sister, who is 7.5. They were in the beginning stages when they were told of a little girl who just turned 13 on Christmas Day.
In the country my parents have adopted from (and are adopting from again) children “age out” of foster care at 13 years old. This little girl would have been put on the streets had my parents not “put a hold” on her file with the intent to adopt – quickly. Most likely, as she is quite beautiful, she would have ended up in some, well, unsavory sort of business. :/ She is completely healthy (they were looking for special needs, but her age qualified her as a special case). Other than being super tiny for her age – 4’8 and 85 pounds at 13!
So, they are having their first pre-adoption appointment TOMORROW! And as for my concerns regarding my brother(s)?? Nonexistent. They both quickly said, “Well you can’t leave her there!” And my oldest brother (age 17, 18 in March) was like why aren’t you going NOW?! Lol. We’re keeping it on the downlow because we haven’t told extended family, but I had to share with someone other than Fiance and my closest friends! And I thought an update might be nice.
So, that was my quick update. We will now go: 21, 18 (basically), 15, 13, 8 (in April.) They are probably going to leave in March. They were adamant that they not be travelling on March 3 (my wedding) or May 25 (when brother graduates high school.) They could be gone on brother or sister’s birthday, but it’s hopefully not going to fall that way. We would all love for them to travel in February if possible because I think it would make for nice later memories to have her be present at my wedding, even if she doesn’t quite know what’s going on. Ya know? Just so she is a part of it and the pictures and could meet some extended family. But we shall see.
YAY! I am super excited!

Love that your brothers had such an awesome attitude! Again, I just want to hug your folks. So excited for you to have a new sister, this post just made my night.

AAaaw congratulations! I love how happy you are about it! What wonderful news!

@tksjewelry: 😀 I am glad as well! Middle brother was the least excited, as I expected, but he has a good heart. He realizes what her alternative would be and that my family “has the means and is just crazy enough to make this work.” <– 17 year old brother’s words. Lol. I wish it were happening faster, but I’ll attempt to be patient. After all, last time it took 2.5 years!
ETA: I meant middle brother as in the 15 y/o. I always feel like I’m confusing when I talk about my siblings. I guess more so now! haha. Now I’ll have my “oldest younger brother,” my “youngest brother,” my “oldest younger sister,” and my “youngest sister.” Whew.
@OrchidsandCandles: Oh I am super excited! It’ll be the first time girls have outnumbered the boys in my family in…ever. 😉 haha. But really, I love that we are able to do this as a family. And I’m particularly ecstatic that my brother (middle one) is on board.

WOW! That is so amazing. Seriously brought tears to my eyes. I hope to one day be as selfless and giving as your parents and the rest of your family are. Congratulations on your new sister! 🙂

I followed your last thread and this is great news! I am so happy things went so well and everyone was excited and happy to be having a new sister. It would be great if things worked out like you wanted and she was able to come to your wedding.

Thank you guys. 🙂 It warms my heart that so many of you appreciate it and see it how I do. They would whole-heartedly disagree that they are anything special. They’re cute like that. Lol.
I’ve admitted before that I don’t know if we’ll carry on in their footsteps, as it’s a hugely personal decision, but I definitely have seen the good and bad sides to the decision from my perspective. Right now I just focus on trying to be the best big sister I can to ALL of my amazing siblings. 🙂

@takemyhand: I would very much like that! Who knows, it could happen right? 🙂

That’s great! I love hearing adoption stories. SO and I have discussed adopting kids of our own one day.
Just curious, what country are they adopting from? And, were you adopted?
