After talking with Darling Husband, we decided to hold off on the swingset until she’s a little older. He doesn’t want to spend the money on that and have her outgrow it in a few years, even though I explained that’s generally what happens with everything that you buy for children, but whatever. So, our next thought was a Power Wheels hot pink Harley Davidson motocycle but since she doesn’t walk yet and can hardly even crawl, that may be a bit advanced for her at this point (we’re thinking that would be a good xmas gift). After some more research, I think we finally found what we’re going to get but I’d love to see if anyone out there actually has one of these and can confirm some of the reviews.
It’s the Smart Trike 3 in 1 Tricycle.
The reviews are mostly all great. A lot of parents have said that they’ve replaced their stroller with this for certain outings since it’s so functional. Does anyone have one or know someone who does? Would you recommend it to your friends with small children?
It’s cheap enough to where I think it’s a nice gift but it also allows us to get a toy or two that our niece can actually play with, since this gift is almost more for Mom and Dad at her age, than it is for her.
(I apologize if I’m super annoying with these questions but I know very little about baby crap.)

Addie got a trike like this for her second birthday, but it’s the Radio Flyer version. We love it! Addie doesn’t consistently pedal, yet, (she starts and stops) so this type of trike is great since we can continue to push her even if she stops peddaling. We use it a lot, especially on walks to park, since she prefers it to the double stroller. I think it’s a great gift!

My kids had something like this and I loved it. I don’t think I used it until my kids were around 1 & 1/2 years old though. When they were younger we still used a stroller so that in case they fell asleep you could recline the seat back to be flat. Can you do that on the above stoller/tryke?

My nephew has something similar and LOVES IT!

@Mrs. Spring: That ones cute, too. Maybe I’ll compare the two and see which one would work the best. They’re both right around the same price.
@country chic: I don’t think it reclines.
@heathaah: Good to know! Think they’ll (mom and dad included) really like it.
While we’re at it, does anyone have a few suggestions for toys that babies around a year old enjoy? Maybe something that your LO couldn’t get enough of at that age? Like I said, I know very little about children.

Board books are great – especially the ones that have textures in them (like fur). My kids couldn’t get enough of those. Anything that makes music is great too.
My son had this ball popper that he loved. Something like this:
My kids had a music table like this.
Sand/water tables are awesome too. In the winter we brought the table inside and put dried noodles in it.

Thanks for the suggestions!
@country chic: We bought that same music table for our friends little girl for her first birthday. I hear she loves it.
@Mrs. Spring: I think I’m going to go the hand puppet route. I don’t want to get anything too big since the trike will be pretty large to begin with.

I’ve never seen that particular trike but it looks awesome! I love the harness for the little ones.

We have a trike similar to that but only the second and third stages (if thet makes sense). She only just started really being able to use it own her own at 2 years and before that we would have to push her around in it and it was just a real chore for us.
I think the swingset is a much better idea. My kids have loved swings since they were about 6 months old and with the seat for the younger kids I think it would be great. Your niece will outgrow the trike long before the swingset and it will also be able to be used for other future children.
