I changed the setting..twice. First setting was 18k white gold tiffany setting and the prong bent and the diamond popped out when I was putting running shoes on the morning after we got engaged. I panicked and called the company and had them reset it in a chunky bezel set the next day. It was a hurried decision based off of my traumatic experience and not at all on what I want or on what my Fiance originally picked out. It was safer for my diamond and allowed it back on my finger within a few days. Fast forward six months and the setting was not me and still wasn’t me and I was unhappy thinking that was it forever. We found a new setting much like the original one Fiance picked out at a local jeweler and traded in my chunky setting for credit on the new setting. I love my setting now and couldn’t be happier!

We updated mine because the first one was given 9 years ago. Yeah, I know. We have had a very long engagement. Neither one of us was really ready at the same time, until now.

The first picture is my promise ring and my first engagement ring. The second picture is my upgrade.

I have not done this but a girl I once worked with did. She got married very young and at the time they could not afford much of a ring…But she knew the setting that she wanted so….they got the setting (which had multiple stones) but just got diamond for the center stone and then put CZ in the rest….they replace one of the CZ diamonds each year.  I would have never gone for this until I saw her ring–you would never guess it!!

When my fiance proposed, he gave me a beautiful white gold and Russian CZ ring, but the setting was an oval that was almost 1/2″ long! It was very pretty, but there was no way I’d be able to wear it with a wedding band. So, a few months ago, I “upgraded” to a white gold and diamond ring that also had an oval setting, but it was much smaller. I just tried it with my wedding band, and they fit perfectly!

My first ring actually broke — the setting was soldered to the band and the soldering came undone. SO and I weren’t very happy with the quality of it. It was supposed to last forever and I had only had it a year and a half! We went to the jeweler, who was amazing, credited us for what we paid for the original and got a brand new ring. 😀
