I have had my ring for over a year now and I LOVE it, however, there are a few things I wish were a bit different. When we purchased it, I noticed that where the center diamond is, there is some extra space. The total carat weight is about .75 (with the band). The center stone is .25 on it’s own I do believe. Well recently, my husband and I stopped at a Kay Jewelers and asked them about updating it to where the gap was gone and possibly bumping my engagement ring alone up to a full carat. The lady we talked to seemed sure that we could get a full half carat in the center, which would make it the size I want.
Has anyone ever had their ring updated like this or similar? Who did you go to? Did it sit up real high on your finger after?
We aren’t going to do it right away, but when we do finally get the chance, I would like to know what I’m getting into. Here is my ring as it is now.

@spence1022: I bumbed up my diamond by a 1/4 carat as well. Yes, it did have to sit up higher because the ring was custom made for the original smaller diamond, but I prefer it this way anyway. Here are some comparison photos, the picture is my setting with a 0.75 ct and the bottom is with a 1 ct diamond.

Here is a side profile of the 0.75 original diamond (Very low set)

Here it is after the reset with a 1 ct diamond

My center diamond was updated only because of the original diamond showing a huge inclusion after a day of wear. I have size 5 fingers for reference…
Original diamond: 0.62

Line 🙁 which slowly got longer and longer the more I wore it…..Fiance was not happy with the jeweler

And the new diamond – same clarity, cut etc but a deeper color and 0.82:

It actually doesn’t sit up too much higher on my finger, it just covers more of it. I went to a smaller jeweler here in Madison WI for all of it. Fiance bought the e-ring there, we swapped out the diamond, bought both our bands, and I will be buying my bridesmaids’ gifts there. The really great thing with them? Lifetime warranty….even if it’s a gift, so my bridesmaids will be covered as well! Plus, they have really great customer service. And they feed you cookies and wine. 😉

Im sure you could do that! ..is that a Neil lane?..I do know that they make the same ring but has a .5 carat round diamond center..so I dont see why they couldn’t make that possible..if a .5 won’t fit in your setting you could trade up to the larger ring that has the center diamond you want. I have a Neil Lane ring too and I love it..the original ring i have comes with a .75 carat princess cut diamond and tcw is 1.5 but hubby had them swap out the diamonds for a better quality stone thats a .83 carat princess cut Leo diamond and it didnt cost much extra to do this I know it was under $900.. the tcw of my engagement ring is now 1.58 and 2.20 with the wedding band.. so I know it can be done!
