I love my engagment ring, I’m the one who picked it out, but I’ve gotten bored with the look of it. I’ve discussed with my fiancee that I would like to add smaller diamonds around the band of the ring, which he was ok with but I feel bad that I want to change the origional style of the ring he gave me. Has anyone changed up the look of their original ring by adding/taking away something and should I feel bad?
Here is the picture of my ring:
Here is what I would like to get (Don’t know what the style is called):

I have just gotten engaged not too long ago, but my fi and I discussed the length of the ring when we were looking at rings. I personally, would never want to update, this is the ring that was used in my engagement, and I feel like I would end up regretting it. However, since we discussed that we would not upgrade we spent more on my engagement ring then we would have if we were planning on upgrading.
Anyway, that is neither here nor there, but that is my view. I know many people who have upgraded their diamonds and love it. Some people I know even consider it as a “renewal” of sorts of their love and vows. If you want to upgrade it and your fiance has no problem with it, then go for it!

I think you will regret it…maybe not now, but in the future.

Yes I did. When we were first engaged all we could afford was a very modest diamond. After a few anniversaries we decided to get a bigger diamond. I still have the original one. I may use it to make a three stone one day or give it to my daughter. As far a upgrading goes I wanted something a little more blingy and my hubby said as long as I was getting a new diamond and not a new husband he was on board. I really think it is something personal for every couple.

The beauty of a solitaire is the endless possibiliites you can have with it. Try a wrap or two diamond bands, one on each side. Maybe a really blingy wedding band?
I love classic solitaires because they make your center stone really shine. I think pave bands take away from the center and can make the center stone look smaller (less attention to it).

Find a blingy wedding band! I think the classiest and most timeless look is a round brillant solitaire with a blingy wedding band!

I think I would leave it as is and add some blingy wedding bands.

Get a blingy eternity band. Best of both worlds!

I see no reason why you would regret it. Get what you love especially if SO is on board! I’ve upgraded my ring six times since I’ve been married. Tastes change, styles change! Why not get what will make you happy??? If it were a family heirloom I would say no don’t do it but if it’s a ring you picked out and you’ve changed your mind slightly and want to add to it a bit, go for it! I’m sentimental but not THAT sentimental!! I’m gonna wear what me happy!
