That week. My sister and two best friends were ALL out of town/the country when it happened (what are the freaking odds?) and it took a little while to let them know!

I waited several months, so I couldn’t vote.  The reason being was that it was just known to family and close friends because we worked together, then we told a wider group of friends and coworkers nearly a year later.

We changed ours later that day after we had told family and close friends (:

It was changed within a few hours.  We did call family first, and I wanted to wait until I told some co-workers, but DH’s father was going to broadcast it on Facebook, anyway.

About a year later, I have had a facebook account since it was just for students, and didn’t really use it. Then we got engaged, after a year I started using facebook again and updated it.

We took a few days to make sure we told everyone we possible could in person or at least via telephone. He proposed on a Thursday and I’m guessing our relationship statuses were changed by Sunday or Monday.

We got engaged at noon and meant to wait until the next day to make sure everyone found out and stuff. But then OFCOURSE his grandmother congratulates us on his FB wall so we were like crap… ok call a few final people and then we gotta put it up. So we went out to dinner that night to celebrate and did it when we got home that night.

We got engaged in the evening, while I was getting ready for a Christmas party we were going to. We called my dad/stepmom first (who already knew, Fiance took my dad to lunch that day). We then talked to FI’s mom/stepdad (who also knew, as he’d called his mom RIGHT before be proposed).

From there we were scrambling to call the rest of our family, as my 12 year old sister wasted no time in putting it on facebook. I knew my mom would have a fit if she found out via FB. After we called everyone, we officially changed it on FB before leaving for the Christmas party. My FB blew up with comments and likes. We’ve been together 12 years and so people have been anxiously awaiting it a long time..lol.

I updated it within the week, but as PP said I was sure to call my parents and siblings and close friends first

we updated like 2 or three days later. we wanted to tell people in person or on the phone, but it was spreading like wildfire and we had to keep deleting fb comments, so we spent an entire evening making all the calls, then changed it on fb and let the reaction and congratulations roll in.

@araneidae:  I didn’t do it until a few months after.  My Fiance was moving to NYC and I wanted to make sure that NY know he’s spoken for, LOL.

@Juliepants:  So you have your relationship status down completely?

I always find it interesting to see what other people are doing/whom they’re telling and how. I’m not engaged, but I have a number of friends who are, and some of them do update their status while others haven’t done so, depending on their personality.

I updated it as soon as I had called everyone near and dear to me to tell them the news, which was late the day after!
