We changed ours within about 30 minutes to an hour. We called our parents and my grandmother (because my mom made me). I texted my two best friends and then we posted it. We wanted everyone to be able to share our happiness the way they’ll be able to share our special day. Then we had dinner and didn’t look at our phones until we got home so we could enjoy the many hundreds of likes and comments together.

I changed it the next day. The proposal happened later in the day on a Friday, and then we had to drive the hour & a half home. We went to each of our parents house to show them the video, then we had friends over and showed them the video. For the ones who weren’t at our place I texted them (it was too late at night to call them, but I wanted to share the news, I was so excited!). The next day I waited until I had got texts or phone calls back from all of them before posting it on FB 🙂

I plan on calling immediate family and then close family. After that, it can be posted to Facebook. I don’t want anyone important in my life finding out via social media.

We updated it as soon as we got home from getting my ring resized.

He wanted me to post the pic right away…..but we waited a few hours and told his Mom (I really have no actual family~but I did call my “sisters”) and then we posted to FB.

I think we updated Facebook about six weeks after getting engaged, back in 2012. We decided to get married in May, and didn’t tell anyone for about three weeks because I wanted to tell my parents face-to-face when we visited them in June (we live in Canada, they live in England). They and my sister were the first to know, shortly followed by my husband’s family. Then we called family and friends. Didn’t update Facebook until we were sure we’d told everyone, including people at work. We even asked his mum not to post anything until we did, as we didn’t want someone finding out online before we’d had the chance to tell them, and she’s very quick with status updates!

I waited half a week before I posted it because we wanted to tell everyone that needed to know.
However, my brother in law and his fiance did the day of and we found out through facebook. Which was very awful for my husband. (and the brother in law was the best man!)

I’m not engaged yet, but I don’t think I’m going to want to do it right away. I feel like at first I will want to just enjoy the moment (or maybe evening), then tell family, close friends, etc. and then I can tell the Facebook world.
I feel like Facebook ruins a lot of this stuff for people now. I know of some people with some blabber mouth friends who posted ring pictures, engagement announcements/stories, etc. before the bride to be even got a chance to update her relationship status to engaged!

I can’t vote quite yet but I’ve thought of this! I’ve actually half assed made a list in my head of who I want to tell myself & not have find out from facebook.
I’m thinking within the week I’ll update. I’ll tell like, maybe only 5-10 people with individual phone calls or texts and then give it a little time to spread naturally….then I’ll update. Likely within like 3-4 days!

I updated after a day or so. I waited until all of the really important people in our lives knew and then did it. I just didn’t want certain people to find out through the internet. I don’t think that there is a “norm” for when to do it. I’ve known people who waited a few weeks and I’ve known people who did it pretty much immediately. Update your facebook status whenever you feel like it.

My family was there when he proposed, along with his family and my closest friends… It was perfect! & of course my sister and friends started posting up the video and giving my fiance and I shoutouts. That way, when i changed my status on facebook later that night, everyone had already seen the pictures and congratulated us! It all happened so fast! 😀
