I’m planning on proposing soon while vacationing in Italy. I ordered my ring from blue nile going on what few things my Girlfriend has told me, she wants to be surprised so has given me little to work with! I went with sapphires in the setting because she loves color, she thinks diamonds alone are boring! She has told me she doesn’t want me to spend too much, that even spending one months salary is ridiculous because she’d rather use the money to fund our next big vacation. She has also said that she would prefer a smaller ring because she’s a nurse and doesn’t want a ring that is going to rip or snag on gloves.
So going with those things I picked out this ring. However, after getting it I feel like the diamond is too small. I’m debating sending it back and getting a .5 ct center stone. However here is what holds me back, it would be more than she would want me to spend and I know without a doubt that she will LOVE this ring as it is. If I were to get a bigger diamond I would have to sacrifice the quality a little bit. I don’t have a lot of extra money to work with because I am proposing earlier than I had planned. I wanted to save up more, but I know that Italy will be the perfect place to propose so I want to do it then. Also I know that after 3 years she is waiting for this ring and she has made it clear that it doesn’t matter what kind of ring I give her, she just wants to be with me.
To be honest I think I’m more concered that her friends will see it and think that I’m cheap for getting such a small stone. I know that she is going to love it and show it off to everyone she encounters! So do I stick with what she wants, or get a bigger diamond and go with what I want?
Here is the ring!
Here is the info on the diamond
Signature Ideal-cut, E-color, VS2-clarity, Princess-Cut, 0.34-carat Diamond
If you include the setting it is a .5 tcw.

ALWAYS stick with what she wants, you can never go wrong doing that. And if her friends think you’re cheap instead of thinking “Yay she’s getting married!” then they aren’t very good friends.

First of all, I think the ring is lovely. Secondly, I would probably leave the ring as is. If she specifically stated that she didn’t want a big diamond, than that ring is perfect. I love that the stone is such great quality.

That is BEAUTIFUL. I’m sure she will LOVE it and who cares what her friends or other people think? You will never make everyone happy. It’s either too small or too big and flashy. All you can hope is to make HER happy, that’s the most important thing. You did an awesome job with the ring though and proposing in Italy? That will be the trip of a lifetime! Good luck and I say stick with what she wants!

I think the ring is beautiful and I love the band! I almost went with a diamond/saapphire band like that!

That ring is beautiful! You did a great job picking it out. And I don’t think the center diamond is small at all. It looks perfect in the setting. Honestly! Plus no matter what, she will love it simply because you chose it and proposed to her with it. it is a gorgeous ring! She is going to be speechless! Good luck and congrats!

It’s beautiful! Leave it the way it is. You already know she’s going to love it. That’s what’s important!

I think it’s gorgeous as is, but I’d leave the upgrade question to her. Tell her after you propose that you’d like to upgrade the center stone for her to a larger size. If she doesn’t want you to, she will insist that you don’t do it. If she doesn’t put up much of a fight, then she wants the bigger stone.
I think you did a wonderful job with her ring, but it can’t hurt to ask her.

Thanks for all the responses, I think I will leave it as it is. @khf777: I like the idea of just asking her after I give it to her. While I’m pretty confident that the ring is the right size, there is still a chance I might have send it back for a different size. I’d hate to have to send it back twice, once for a new stone and again for a resize.

I think its lovely and I wouldn’t change it! I’m also a nurse and never really wear my ring to work so keep that in mind and keep this one!
