A little back story…
Hubby and I have been married for a year and I have had my engagement ring for two years. We both work in the jewerly industry, hard job to explain but we do marketing and presentations for multiple jewelry stores. I also do seminars on diamonds and gemstones…
Anyway, when my hubby propsed he picked the best diamond he could afford. My diamond is abut .89 carats, I color, I1. BUT because he had his pick out of THOUSANDS of diamonds, I have to say it looks much higher (cut well). It is a little cloudier than a VS but the only visable inclussion is under one of the prongs, so I have never seen it and i have never seen any color in it….. ever! (which is why I always think you have to see a diamond in person, even when girls have people vote on a diamond just based on the 4 c’s, I never think that is enough info)
But anyways…… we always knew we would upgrade the diamond. The thought being we would match the original diamond with another and create studs. But I have freakishly small fingers (already we have lost some of the detailing on the ring, just to get it sized to 4 1/4. So I have just found out they wont be able to put a larger diamond in the ring. IF i upgrade the diamond in this setting I can only get a higher quality not carat weight 🙁
So, one of the stores mentioned upgradding the whole ring. Hubby looked sad because I know he went to a lot fo trouble picking out the original setting. I found a ring I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!! Forevermark wedding bands, I would buy two and then take the middle diamond out and replace it with a 1.75 ish, G ish, SI1 ish diamond.
Thoughts? I dont want to make him sad but he is the calmest guy in the world and I know he wants to make me happy. We could always use the original ring for our daughter or maybe with Tanzanite as a right hand ring.
Also, before you feel too sorry for my hubby, I bought him his band myself and I could tell he never really loved it and one day he came home with a new band he got himself. Didnt really hurt my feelings. But I also know men take a lot of pride in engagement rings.
And if this all seems excesive to you… we work in the industry so after selling and wearing 6 carat diamonds your views change a little 🙂 and we get really good deals.
The first pic IS NOT MY RING… but i dont have pictures on this computer so I found a similar ring in wedding bee (hope that isnt frowned upon). If you replaced all the diamonds with round brilliants it would be similar to my ring. Mine has a lot of detail on the side of the band too.
The second in a Forevermark band… I would put two together and replace the center stone with a large diamond. Probably smaller diamonds than these. they have a few sizes.
