i have a bias against changing engagement rings, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. your current ring has the sentiment of his proposal attached to it. no other ring ever will carry that value. the size of the stone is irrelevant to the sentimental worth of an engagement ring. so if you want a new ring, how about a 5yr anniversary present? that being said, i respect others’ opinion on the matter and im sure you’ll get a range of opinions.

@cruffino:  I’m with you on this one, but that’s just personal to me. I can’t imagine ever changing the rings he proposed to and married me with. Anniversary rings, I totally would get though XD

if you want to change it, OP, just discuss it with him, honestly. it’s none of anybody’s business.

What if you put a gemstone or something in your original setting for a right hand ring and upgrade the whole engagement ring? that’s what i’d do!

I don’t have my e-ring yet but I have a promise ring & it’s teeny tiny but I can’t imagine ever getting rid of it. It’s like 1/5 of a carat or something. If you do, I’d definitely make it into a RHR. I’m trying to picture the new e-ring. It’s that 5 stone ring but make the center stone bigger? I don’t like 5 stone rings as e-rings personally so I say stick with the old one and upgrade the quality of your ring. That’s just my personal taste though

@nonapkns:  I would keep the original ring, as is, and maybe wear it on your other hand or just keep it somewhere safe. Don’t mess with it.

I’d then buy the upgrade ring(s) and wear those.

You won’t be happy with a better quality diamond that’s the same size as your original e-ring so I don’t think you have much choice but to get a new ring.
