Would you ever upgrade your Engagement ring and under what circumstances?
Also, what would you upgrade to and how would you reach an agreement with your SO?
Please note that people have all different beliefs on this and each person has a right to do what they feel is best. I am just trying to gauge the situations that result in people upgrading their rings, whatever they may be.

I don’t think I’ll be upgrading, but I was lucky enough to get exactly the engagement ring I wanted. I have small fingers so anything bigger would be too much for me.
I am, however, considering getting a plain wedding band for beach days, vacations, etc (my current band is a half eternity band).

@Kriddlelouise: well, my current ring is a CZ so we are saving for my upgrade. It’s always been understood that I get an upgrade when we can afford it, hopefully before the wedding. I feel like upgrades are personal between the couples and not everyone wants one. If you love your ring then why upgrade ? On the other hand, if you love your ring but you two can afford something else after a few years and you want it, then why not? 🙂 You only live once, just do what makes you happy.

My DH has informed me that I may upgrade my diamond when I upgrade my husband, haha. 🙂

I am upgrading mine because that is what my Fiance wants to do because when he first proposed he didnt get on one knee and said that he wants to do it over. This was not something I asked for this is something he wants to do. For us it isnt a waste of money, if it is something he wants to do for all those who dont agree he must have the means to do it.

I helped pick out the ring, so I got exactly what I wanted. I love it, so I don’t think I would ever upgrade.
I can understand some people wanting to upgrade. For example, some people may marry young and not afford something as nice as they want, so they could upgrade on an anniversary in later years.

@Kriddlelouise: I’m in the same boat as some of the other girls … I picked out my ring with my fiance, and it was exactly what I wanted. I’m a really sentimental person, so I can’t really imagine wearing something other than the ring he proposed with. I don’t think my fiance would like it if I wanted to upgrade either. Haha.

I am upgrading this summer for our 5 year anniversary! We were in college when he proposed, and we are both frugal people. He didn’t have the money to spend at the time, and I made it clear that I didn’t expect him to. Now that we are older with jobs, I can get exactly what I want. How I convinced DH to agree? He wanted a personal trainer that cost $$$ so we each got what we wanted guilt free!
In real life (Caris from BetterthanDiamond)–NOT MINE:

Nope. My fiancé put a lot of thought and love into it, wouldn’t change it for the world.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with upgrading but I won’t be doing it.

I picked out my ring, so unless something dramatic happens I’ll be keeping my setting. My center stone is an unenhanced moissanite so if I do “upgrade” then it will be with an amora gem

I don’t see myself upgrading any time in the future. I’m not a fan of jewellery anyway, so I definitely wouldn’t get anything bigger. At the very most, I might buy a ring with a different coloured gemstone (currently yellow sapphire) so I can switch them up a bit, but that’s pretty unlikely.

I’m considering “upgrading” in the form of getting a second ring and switching back and forth between them. My current ring is yellow gold, and I LOVE it, but I wouldn’t mind having something in palladium or platinum to go better with my silver colored jewelry. I can’t wear white gold, so that’s out. Also, I kind of want a moissy ring, too, so there’s that. My Fiance told me from the get-go that if I wanted an upgrade once we have the money, he wouldn’t care. He doesn’t care what the ring looks like as long as I have one on my finger. 🙂

I would upgrade, for sure! To whatever we could afford, when I wanted a change. I don’t see the big deal. I would never get rid of my original ring or diamond though.

I can’t imagine ever upgrading, but I got my dream ring that I picked out.
