You wont find many all inclusives in the US for your budget. Is there a reason you’re limiting yourself to the US? Caribbean all inclusives will give you the most bang for your buck. You might also consider a cruise. That’s very doable with your budget and will let you plan a combination of relaxing and hoping off to do excursions. The only issue would be how touristy it is. Resorts tend to be in touristy areas.

Jemmstone :   I don’t know a specific resort, but when you described the type of place you want to visit, two came to mind – Mackinac Island, Michigan, and Jekyll Island, Georgia.  I have been to both (stayed in regular motel) and just loved the feel of them.

Jemmstone :  Gotcha. What types of things are you guys looking to do? Do you see yourself in the mountains, on a lake, on the beach…? Do you want to have a city to explore or be more isolated? Also what time of year will you be traveling?

Jemmstone :  It’s not in the US,, but my husband and I visited Quebec City after Christmas and it was amazingly beautiful. We dont get snow where I live though so it just added to the mood. My parents visited in May though and loved it as well. The US dollar is worth more than the Canadian dollar right now so it can be inexpensive depending on when and where you go. There’s also enough sight seeing to do without feeling like cattle being moved through places. Other places in the US I would consider would be Asheville, NC; Pigeon Forge, TN; New Orleans, LA or Savannah, GA. I know you said no to Florida, but St. Augustine is beautiful. My husband and I are looking into visiting Banff, Canada soon because we enjoy winter vacations. I know I didn’t mention any specific resorts, but I think narrowing down your region first would be a big step.

Try Charleston SC or the Smokey Mountains in NC….Both beautiful and have a wealth of things to do. In terms of resorts, hard to find in the US unless you are referring to Hawaii…

If we were planning our honeymoon right now, we would go for the smokey mountains.  Instead we did Orlando and have been loving it,  but a cabin in the smokey mountain area would be ideal.

Check out the Greenbriar in White Sulfur Springs, WV. It’s a gorgeous resort in the Appalachian mountains.
