Yes, I’ll confess I used my new name early… five months early!

My new name will be relatively rare, and I just wanted to snag a personalised email account name. Being so rare, I thought it’d be super annoying if someone else got there first… a bit silly, I know πŸ™‚

that’s so exciting! also, that brings up a good question for me since i’m planning to fly about a month after our wedding. i guess i’ll use my married name just in case?

how long does it take to get a new social security card?

Exciting!! I did the same thing for my SILs baby shower 2 months after our wedding. Booked it early and had to use my new name before I changed it! Once you get your marriage license back it is a very short time to get your new drivers license so I think even for the April flight you might want to change it..

@CorgiTales: You dont need your new SS card for your license. You can go directly to the DMV from the SS office. They will give you a piece of paper that states that your name has been changed. Your new SS card will take about 10 days to get to your house but you will have a new license before that!

Oh crap—I need to book a ticket for June (it’s a work trip, we book early) and I didn’t even think of this! I’m so glad you posted this–I’ll have to make sure to book it in my new name.

I’ve used my name too (4.5 weeks OMG)—I had to get a name tag for a volunteer group that I’m working with and since I’m not really starting until next month, it was easier to just get my new name on it. And I have business cards because my office ordered some last month and they got a discount πŸ™‚

@CorgiTales: Yup it is pretty much a PITA! I waited almost 3 months to change it with the bank because I just never had time to go! Oh and since my husband and I have a joint account he had to be there for it too! So of course we had to go on a Saturday morning when the line is backed up!
