We’re having a small bridal party in our garden setting wedding. We’ve asked two friends of ours to be the ushers but would rather they not have to get matching suits with the groomsmen. If they wear nice suits with bouttanniers do you think that would be alrighty and not too much of a hodge podge?

I asked my ushers to wear dark suits, preferebly black. I gave them bouttenieres and they looked great!

Suits will definitely look fine. That’s actually what we asked our ushers to wear. We then purchased matching ties for them (their gifts for being in the bridal party), and provided them a boutteniere to wear.

Thank goodness for this post! I hadn’t even thought about what the ushers would wear. I can’t afford tuxes for them and wouldn’t dream of asking them to buy or rent something, so I will take you up on your tip and ask them to just wear a dark suit that they already have. They’re getting bouts so they’ll fit in. And I LOVE the idea to buy them a tie too. Yay – I love checking decisions off!

We also just asked them to wear a dark suit of their choosing. Both wore navy suits. It worked out great (even though technically they didn’t match our groomsmen, who wore black. But who cares?). We got bouttonieres for them to identify them.

When my fiance was an usher for his friend’s wedding, he wore a tuxedo to match all the groomsmen. That way everyone matched.

I went to a very informal wedding, and the ushers wore matching dress shirts in one of the wedding colors. (The bride and groom had given the shirts to the ushers.) Since it was an informal wedding, they didn’t even have on ties, but they did have bouts, and they looked great!

Thanks for all the tips, ladies!
