I will be wearing my mom’s dress! It has been redone to fit me, and styled more modern, less 80’s.

The only thing I have left from my Mom’s wedding dress is a taffeta flower, but I don’t know how to incorporate it.

I made my ring pillow as well as lined a few burlap banners with the lace from my moms wedding veil!  I am extremely excited to be able to incorporate it!  You go girl!!!

@kerri13: I like the canvas idea! The flower is taffeta (my dress is satin/lace) and it’s white (my dress is ivory) LOL! But I think that canvas idea is really cute!

I wouldn’t try to retrofit lace from an old dress over a new one, it could really be a nightmare that ruins two dresses.  Have you taken your mom’s dress to a seamstress to see how it can be altered?  Sometimes they can do amazing things (I’m talking like removing sleeves, changing necklines, even changing the shape might be possible).  If you’re getting essentially a free dress, you can break the bank a little on alterations.

Or could you maybe have a veil made using the lace from your mom’s dress, like a mantilla style veil?  That’ll probably be a lot easier than doing an entire dress with it, and you’ll still be able to use her dress.

I did what you originally thought to do and took some flowers from her dress and had them wrapped around my bouquet stem.

I’m not planning on using lace from my mom’s gown, but I will be using some from her veil.

My mom was the third bride to get married in the gown. (Before her were her mother and her aunt. After her were her sister and two of her cousins.) I would love to wear it, but it’s about a size six and I’m a twelve. Not happening. Instead, I’m taking one or two of the appliques from her cathedral length mantilla veil and incorporating them into my look. I may use one as a hair ornament, or maybe wrap a piece or two around my bouquet.
