Tell the nurse.  They usually won’t let you go home until you poop.  If they did I would be on the phone with the doctor’s office ASAP.  Constipation can be really dangerous and I know more than one person who became impacted and needed surgery in order to clear everything out.

Definately call the doctor’s office. They need to give you something a little more powerful. Increase your fluids and fiber. Also prunes/prune juice will help!

@roxy821:  I don’t have any other advice, but wanted to say congratulations!  And I hope you are able to fix your problem soon, that sounds pretty awful!

@roxy821:  Wish I had some advice! Prunes helped me when I was terribly constipated in the beginning of pregnancy. I hate prunes but I just bit into them a few times and swollowed them like I was taking shots! lol

Congrats Mama!!!!! can’t wait to hear about baby’s birth!

So you have not pooped in three days?  Drink lots and lots of water because dehydration may be the culprit.  Most stool softeners tell you to drink plenty of water with them for a reason.  In the meantime, definitely call the doctor’s office and update them on the situation.  They may have more ideas for you like a suppository or they may want you to come in.  I’m pretty sure Milk of Magnesia is good but I prefer Magnesium Citrate.

Lots of water. Fiber cereal. Maybe a smoothie with apple juice, berries, spinach? Figs if you can find them. They are awesome. No bananas, no cheese, those will NOT help.

I have two pieces of advise.  I had 4 and 5 degree tears so I absolutely feel your pain!  First, drink a ton of water (I’m talking like at least a gallon maybe two a day) along with extra fiber either via food or a supliment.  Second, stop taking any pain medication besides tylanol.  I know that sucks but the pain meds can really cause the problem.  Also, be sure to take your time and relax and sometimes just walking around a little bit in the house (holding that cute baby of course) will help get things moving.

Enjoy these first few days!  they are the best!

My hospital only required me to pee 2 hours after giving birth, so it was a good 3 days after we got home that I finally got the courage to bm. I know, Too Much Information…but it’s scary! I ended up taking double the iron b/c the pharmacist made a mistake on the bottle and I was constipated for a good 8 weeks b/c of it!

I recommend a lot of fiber. Eat all the fruit you can and drink 2-3 glasses of Metamucil a day. What also helped a ton was eating 3-4 fiber bars a day. Apple juice and Apple cider will do the trick too.

I really wanted to share for anyone that may need a little help “going” after surgery, etc. I had surgery a few months ago and the surgery coupled with the pain killers I was taking made it impossible for me to go. Plus my stitches were in my abdomen so if I strained at all it hurt like a mother. Anyways, I wa taking stool softeners to no avail. Finally, on the fifth day of no pooping I went and talked to a pharmacist. Se recommended this tea called smoove moves. OMG…Amazing. you can get it at any grocery store in the herbal tea section. It’s seriously awesome. No straining at all. I drank it in the afternoon, did my thing that night, and the next day literally sat thru an all day meeting with no problems. But follow the package instructions carefully bc trust me you will regret it if you don’t 🙂
