Since my SO has been asking about rings and talking to jewelers, I’ve decided to get really serious about improving myself this year. I invested in a membership at a nicer gym, but that’s not a huge deal since he and I have always bonded over the fact that we lift weights. Just in the back of my mind, in addition to sharing the chats with him, I also have the motivation of being in shape for all the trips and photos in the next couple of years 🙂
More importantly though, I’ve gotten dead serious about stopping biting my nails. I’ve always been highly anxious and bit my nails for at least twenty years. Friends, boyfriends, and my mother have all tried to get me to stop with various degrees of success, but I’m proud to say that with no-bite nail polish and weekly accountability pictures to my mom, I’m about three weeks bite-free and gone from disgusting flaky cut-up cuticles and red nailbeds to the attached image! They aren’t perfect yet but I almost died when one of my friend’s high maintenance girlfriends asked me where I got my nails done. When I said I did them myself, she almost didn’t believe me and said they looked like a professional manicure. I don’t totally believe her but I am VERY happy with the improvement over a short period. Now if only I can keep it going until I get the right bling to complement my hard work! ;P
What have you done to motivate yourself in the pre-engagement stage?
These are my terrible, embarassing nails a couple of weeks after SO and I got serious about a ring hunt. Horribly enough, this was a good day, and in the middle of healing and growing back out (I never would have taken a picture of my nails at their worst!!). I’m sorry I have to show you this but I want other girls to know how quickly a turnaround can come when you’re motivated!
This is the day after my high maintenance friend told me my nails looked great! Again, I know they’re not REALLY that great, but when the before picture was my nails on a GOOD week, well I’m giving myself an A++ for effort 🙂
