Is that weird? I know obviously I have a ton of time to make a decision and ask my dad, but I was just listening to my iPod on shuffle (and reading WB of course) and “Fishing in the Dark” came on. I remember my parents telling my sister and I when we were young that this was their song.
It just occurred to me as a possibility to dance with my dad – I know he really likes the song, obviously. And it kind of ties my mom in there too…
But is that bizarre? Anyone ever done this?

I don’t know…. My first reaction was that’s your mom and dad’s song, and it should remain their song that represents their first dance as husband and wife. It’s not a father/daughter song in this situation. But you should ask your parents what they think. If they like the idea, then go with it.

@Loribeth: Yah that was definitely a thought, I’d obviously ask them. And it is kind of a somewhat “date-like” song for a father and daughter.
Just got me thinking… I’d probably let me dad have all picking rights and other than that song, I don’t even really know what he likes! He isn’t a big music guy.

Was there a song that that was really popular from the year you were born?
When I was born, every time my mom got what she called the ‘baby blues’ whenever heard “Everybody Loves Somebody” sung by Dean Martin after I was born. So the song meant something to my mom and my dad, but it was because of me that it meant something.
I don’t know if that makes any sense, but find out if there was a special song that made them feel emotional after your birth.
