Sorry Bee, but you need to go to the doc. If you leave a UTI you can easily develop a kidney infection. That has happened to me and I had a high fever and the shakes and could hardly stand. The doc also told me that a kidney infection has a chance of going septic, which is extremely dangerous! Suck it up and make an appointment.

A UTI is a bacterial infection, so antibiotics are really the best and only option for treatment. It sounds like you may have had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics you got last time! Bactrim is one of the most common antibiotics for UTIs, and it is a sulfa drug, which is a class of medications a lot of people are allergic to. Definitely talk to your doctor about your past experience with medication; they will be able to prescribe something different for you this time. Good luck!

lioness21 :  As PP said, an UTI can become so much worse if you don’t go to the doc, don’t delay! Especially if you’ve got symptoms like that

I have had an infection in both kidneys TWICE in 12 years. The first I ended up in hospital for 5 days and the second was this last Christmas and was in hospital getting tests on Christmas Eve…such a bore and so painful

Some women are more prone to this sort of thing unfortunately

lioness21 :  I second what PP’s have said about going to doctor. I had them frequently as a teenager. One time My sysptoms were soooo light that I didn’t even notice them. Then I got dizzy and almost fainted. Went to the doctors immediately. Threw up all over the hallway before I got to the room. I ended up having a severe kidney infection and was hospitalized for 7 DAYSSSS!!! Good luck bee! Please take care of yourself and go to the doc’s! ETA: just read that you booked an appointment at doctor’s. Hope they clear it up right away! UTI’s suck so bad

I’m glad you have an appointment. I tried d mannose when I had my last UTI, since I got it on Christmas Eve and didn’t want to go to the doctor. It helped quite a bit but I didn’t get over it completely until I got an antibiotic. I do take a teaspoon of d mannose mixed with water once a day for preventative measures, though!

I would see your doctor, but in my experience, drinking cranberry juice, or taking cranberry pills can get rid of one if it is caught early enough..

You can drink cranberry juice until you can get to the doctor.

I had a UTI that was starting to develop into a a more severe infection. I had a 102 fever and could barely move. I didn’t want to go to the doctor either and so I tried d mannose. It got rid of it for me. I’m not saying don’t go to the doctor, but d mannose is really the best natural remedy. I used to take it after I had sex and it prevented any other UTIs. I also used to only get UTIs with one of my exes, just all the time. But with my fiance I don’t get them at all and I don’t take d mannose anymore. I guess our physcial chemistry is just better together or something.
