So I woke up at 3 am in pain and discomfort and yep it’s a UTI AND I am in a show tonight singing, dancing and wearing skimpy clothing… OH JOY!!
Ugh… so other than drinking a shit load of cranberry juice (low sugar of course) does anyone have any home remedies or any helpful tips of what to do and what to avoid?

Once you have it (if it feels pretty bad and not a mild case), you generally need a script to get rid of it and to ensure it doesnt spread to your kidneys,
However you can eat a lot of yogurt with probiotics to help it as well.
Drink a TON of water. It dilutes the urine and helps wash out the bacteria
If you are in pain you can take a hot bath (short one) or use a heating pad.

You can pick up some azo’s they are GREAT for the symptoms and should give you some relief for your show!
FYI b/c of the dye it in it’s makes your pee red/orange…. nothing to worry about just wanted to let you know so you didn’t freak out. lol

Sorry, that sucks! i find that just guzzling water non-stop is good too, does just as much for me as the cranberry juice.
If i were in your shoes with a performance tonight, I’d play it safe and get on an OTC medication (Azo or Cystex), that should hold you over until you can get on an antibiotic (if you end up needing one at all).

Seriously, I would go to a clinic and get a prescription for that.

Thanks guys! I was hoping to avoid AZo (took it last year so I know that dye sucks) cause I am wearing a bikini in a song tonight n tight changing uarters so I’ll be embarrassed wearign a pad, which I’ll need cause of the dye but I guess I gotta suck it up huh?
My BFF said no alcohol… anyone else know of alcohol being bad for a UTI?

maybe panty liners? so they “hide” better?
And yes alcohol is bad for a UTI, along with caffeine.
When I took micro our professor made a comment that if you could drink a bottle (like large bottle) of real cranberry juice in roughly an hours time, it would change the ph in your urine/bladder enough that the bacteria could not breed/survive.
I’ve never actaully been able to accomplish this though b/c I HATE cranberry juice and a big bottle is a lot! lol

@StarIzInkd: For starters, if you haven’t gone to the doctor yet, it’s best to go ASAP. A UTI is typically a bacterial infections which should be treated with antibiotics in order to ensure that it completely goes away (and please finish the entire course of antibiotics even if it feels better before then). Aside from drinking cranberry juice, you should try to increase your water intake to help flush out the bacteria. You’ll want to avoid coffee, tea, colas, alcohol, and of course anything high in sugar. It’s also important to avoid taking a bath because this is an ideal environment for bacteria to enter the urethra, just shower instead. And of course after using the bathroom, wipe from front to back. It may also help to void every 2 to 3 hours rather than trying to hold it, as well as before and after sex.
There’s not really much you can do at this point besides going to the doctor. They’ll be able to prescribe something that will get rid of the infection, and they may suggest some type of analgesic to alleviate some of the pain. Hope this helps.

I’ve heard coffee and sugar are bad while you have one too but I’m not 100% sure

You DO NOT want a kidney infection. It happened to me a couple years ago. I felt like I was being stabbed repeatedly in the back and I had to go to the emergency room at 12am.

I would go get a script for antibiotics asap. I had a kidney infection earlier this year that developed out of a persistent UTI and it was HORRIBLE. I never want to go through that pain again.
