I’m home sick and Fiance had to work today from 11-10+. We thought that we could at least spend time together yesterday but he got called into work at 11. So this year was not that exciting for us.

I’m sorry, I can kind of relate. We have officially announced our engagement and are planning full force ahead for our wedding in 6 mos. but I still don’t have a ring so I feel a little silly. Another holiday without a ring, roses yes, but no ring. And my Fiance has no excuse we both have great jobs, he just says he’s waiting for the right time.

I wish there was a good answer to tell people to mind their own business with that question!
Basically, you’re all set and happy with him and that’s what counts – celebrate that on VDay! You proposal will come.

I know what you mean.  My bf is still in school and people ask all the time.  Not only that but we live 3 hours away currently, so it’s just not logical to get engaged right this moment.  It’s frustrating but I just try to brush it off and tell people we aren’t in a rush (well maybe I’m lying, but it’s really none of their business!).  But hey, atleast they get the idea and back off with the questions.  It’ll happen for you soon!  And atleast Vday is almost over so hopefully the questions will stop soon!

I feel like you are engaged though- I mean at least emotionally. If you have all those things planned you’re pretty much engaged, even if you don’t have the ring to prove it! Would it be ok just to say youre engaged and not have the ring yet?

Of course, my parents didn’t recognize that i was engaged until i had the ring. Which is complete bullshit i think.

I really don’t understand why no one recognizes an engagement without a ring! It just really makes no sense! engagement is.. a committment, furthering your relationship, and sort of promising to each other that you’ll be married. You don’t neeeeeeed a peice of metal to make that decision. Of course it is nice to have!

I feel bad that you know youre getting married and have all these plans but cant be engaged just because of the money/ring situation πŸ™

We have the exact same situation, basically! R and I consider ourselves engaged, but he still wants to do a romantic “proposal.” No one else considers us engaged, but we’re actively planning! It’s really tough, and I feel like it’s unfair – I don’t need a ring to be engaged, we’re broke college students for goodness sakes. It can be really hard when my friends want to talk about it, but are always asking, “well, when’s the ring going to be here?”
