An hour from Richmond in which direction?  Quantico area?  or south?

There are some nice venues in Lynchburg, but that’s 2 hours west of Richmond. I don’t know which direction you’re in.

How solid is your date? There are a ton of B&B’s towards Charlottesville which might be worth the drive, and probably many more close to Richmond. Usually you can get these really cheap during the off-season but since June is their busy season, you might not have much bargaining power.

Since these are independent, single-owner businesses, you would be able to work a good deal with the right owner.

My brother did a B&B wedding in Delaware during off-season and got the use of the entire home, grounds, plus tables and chairs (the B&B already owned these as they did a big wedding business) and overnight lodging for ~30 people for about $2500 which was about half the price of the rooms alone during high season. He got a discounted rate for those wishing to stay longer and a block of rooms at a Holiday Inn-type hotel down the road for everyone that didn’t fit in the B&B. The B&B referred him to a reasonably priced local caterer and gave the caterer full use of their kitchen.

But that was off-season…

Sorry to hear about your $ issues.  I’m getting married in RVA so hopefully I can help in case you do get married there.

First, check out Main Street Station (my reception venue).  It looks much more grand than the price tag!  That park on Church Hill also looks like it would be a great spot for a more informal wedding and the view is great.  There’s a lot of awesome restaurants that would be good for a smaller guest list- CanCan Brassiere is one of my favorites and it has a such a unique feel.  The Tobacco Company Restaurant is another, and it can fit more people.  Oh, also check out Old City Bar- its right next to Main Street Station and the catering company White House Catering owns it.  The building is awesome, you get free reign to the entire space if you book it, and food is coming from the same spot so there would be no worries about cold dishes!  Finally, try Linden Row Inn.  I’m staying in their suite before and after my wedding, but I know they rent out the brick courtyard for weddings- its cheap and very “old Richmond.”  I’ve heard it compared to The Jefferson Hotel on a budget.

I forgot one- check out the Poe Museum.  I considered them for my bridal portraits and it was $50 for 3 hours.  I think they’re pretty cheap for weddings and the courtyard is beautiful!
