Well at 23, I don’t have one home yet but eventually someday I’d have no problem having a vacation home (assuming we could afford it).  My parent’s recently bought a vacation home that they will one day retire to when they reach that stage of their lives and they love it!

It’s not ours yet but FI’s mom has a lake house. It is AMAZING.

I love watching the house hunters international series.  I would love to have one that you just hop on a plane and arrive at the warm beach.

DH’s family has a vacation home and we all get to use it.  We love it!  Sometimes we gather there as an entire family and sometimes we just ask for the week or the days we want.  It’s offered to us on a first come, first served basis.

I would have to be richer than I’ll probably ever be to actually want a vacation home. I’m not the kind of person who likes going on the same trip over and over again… if I have the time and money to spend on a vacation then I really want to go somewhere new every time. There is just too much to see to limit myself to going to one place all the time.

The only way I could see us doing this is if we were somehow wealthy enough that we could afford to take a lot of time off so I could still go different places every year and go to our vacation home at least 2-3 times/year (and even then I think I’d want it to be something local to the US so it wouldn’t take forever to get to).

Darling Husband definitely wants a vacation house. For us, the problem isn’t buying a house; it’s getting a car–or rather, finding a place to park the car! Here in NYC, parking garage spaces are between $500 and $800 a month, and we live in an apartment building so of course we don’t have our own spot. We also don’t have the time/energy to park on the street and move it constantly. So eventually, when we feel that we’re able to stomach paying for a parking spot, then we’ll definitely get a house. Maybe upstate NY or in Connecticut somewhere. We want to be close to a lake and close to skiing.

Every time I watch House Hunters International i want one!!! But seriously, when would I ever get to go? It’s not like I get summers off, it’s not like I’m retired, it’s not like I’d really get to enjoy it that much so it would be a financial drain. And I don’t like that I’d have to cook and do laundry on my vacation, haha. But I swoon over some of those vacation homes and how lovely it all looks.

There are a bunch of lakes in the midwest about 2-4 hours away from St Louis, though, so we know a handful of people who have lake houses and they go pretty much every weekend during the summer!

ETA: i’d also hate that i felt like i ‘had’ to go to the same place all the time.

I like the idea of one, but I don’t think I would ever actually want one.  I would feel like I would have to visit it over other destinations to get my money out of it.  I would much rather vacation to a new place each year.

I think a vacation home would be nice, but not till way into the future, like 20 years. The reason is becaue I want Darling Husband and I to travel as much as we can all over the world on our vacations and if we had a vacation home I would feel obligated to go there all the time. But I can definitely picture us eventually deciding on our favorite vacation destination and investing in some kind of small condo or something.

We talked about it while watching HH this weekend! haha.

We only get 2 weeks of vacation a year so at this point in our lives, it’s just not really practical. And as PP’s said, we like to visit new places when we actually have the time/money. But who knows, maybe someday in the future we will feel differently.

I prefer going to new and different places, I wouldn’t want to go to the same place for vacation each time. But I’m also not attached to any place like your fi is. I feel like if you’d use it, it’s a great idea!
