We’re going on vacation this year for 1 week and I was wondering – is it smart to buy a seperate ring (just a cheapie one) to wear instead of my e-ring for the week? Has anyone else done this?
I wasn’t sure where to post this so please move it if it’s in the wrong category.

I have heard of people doing something like this, but I have worn my ring everywhere – including a two week honeymoon in Croatia (swimming in the ocean, etc.), and a rebuilding trip to New Orleans (and wore it all through service projects) and has been fine for me.

I was pretty terrified of wearing my ring on vacation b/c it’s a family diamond. Since my Mother-In-Law wore the ring before me, I asked her what she did and she wore it, so I wore it too. I was just careful to keep an eye on it, especially if I was in water.

I guess it depends on where you are going and what types of things you will be doing? I wore my ring on our honeymoon in Jamaica and wore it while swimming in the pool and ocean with no problem. However I did not wear my ring when we traveled to Colombia because there were warnings that you shouldnt wear expensive jewelry.

where are you going? most places, you’ll be fine wearing it. if i was going to a place like colombia or a developing country, i would buy a cheap replacement.

I did this. I don’t like to bathe/swim with my e-ring because I’m afraid the diamonds in the band will fall out. My wedding ring is the same style. I’m paranoid, I know but I’d still feel comfortable having something else.
I plan on wearing my cheap tungsten band on our honeymoon when I’m in the pool and ocean. Even with the insurance, I’d hate to lose it.
By the way, I got my cheap band for $12 on eBay.

We’re going to Tokyo, Japan. I’ve done a little research but I’ve heard about gangs in some areas in Japan (Not sure which areas specifically though) and on the cramped trains that people are prone to be pick-pocketed. I never really let it out of my site but I’m afraid that with it being “big” (1 carat, but you know what I mean?) that someone would want to attack us or something lol. I’m a little paranoid too! We won’t be going swimming but we will be riding trains/site seeing/seeing concerts.

@FutureMrsH11:you’ll be fine wearing a ring in tokyo. i have a feeling you won’t be visiting gang infested areas. as for pickpockets, trains are popular because they can grab your wallet without being noticed. they can’t exactly slip a ring off your finger without being undetected.

@FutureMrsH11: Totally up to you and how comfortable you feel!
I know I will probably buy a replacement rather quickly, as I am a heavy gardener and tend to lose things extremely easily (even important things! SHAME ON ME).
I will probably wear my replacement on gardening days and if we go somewhere I’m not comfortable with it on.

Thanks for the help guys 🙂 I was writing up our budget and was wondering if I should budget in money for a replacement ring or not.
