I think it is practical to have a secondary ring. I have a plain yellow gold plated tungsten band that I wear when I don’t feel comfortable wearing my rings. It was only $5 on ebay.

most hotel rooms have a safe if you want to leave your ring in the room. they’re easy to use.

also, it’s fun to have a “stunt” ring — I love any excuse I can get to wear mine.

I wore my engagement ring on my recent trip to Hawaii.  The sand and salt water and sunscreen really did a number on it.  It was so dirty that I actually had to take it into Tiffany’s while I was in Hawaii to have it cleaned.

I left it in the safe in the room most of the time after that.

I’d either not wear it, or get a cheap ring.  I don’t wanna ever put my ring through that again.

I just wear my ring. I have insurance, I also know it wont die in a pool being made of platinum, diamonds, and sapphire.

I tend to bring a cleaning stick with my luggage. I feel so naked without my jewelery.

I vote with.  My rings have been on a handful of pool, beach vacations, snorkeling, scuba diving, glacier walks, mountain treks, etc.  The ring will be safe by a pool unless your a major clutz and bang it repeatedly into the side while doing laps.

I went on some vacation with it and some did not.

Last Friday, on 20/20, they did a story where hotel’s manager helped himself with the safe and took cash.  I feel like no where is safe.

I will say, do not get a cheap ring. When I took a trip without my Darling Husband, I wear a different ring.

I’d wear it.   I have insurance on my rings; and, I can easily get it re-plated by a local jeweler so worries there. //  The only time I would suggest that you not wear your ering is if you’re going overseas to places where you’re not familiar with.

I am an Encore Bride, and I never took my Bridal Set off in over 20 years.  So I’ll tell you that rings are pretty durable… hanging out in Florida at a Hotel Pool isn’t going to give your ring a beating IMO (it will probably LOVE the vacation as much as you will… and will sparkle brightly in the sunshine)

That said,

Mr TTR has given me a much more valuable and impressive E-Ring than my first Hubby did… so I am pretty aware of what might cause it (or me) stress

It certainly comes on all our vacations, but it does stay in the Hotel / Cruise Ship In-Room Safe locked up on some occasions.  Like if we are visiting a 3rd World Country – or plannig to Scuba / Snorkle (the ocean being a lot bigger & deeper than any pool I might encounter)

Personally, I’m not a girl for a stand-in ring… I just don’t get that idea so much (although I LOVE ALL Jewellery, so do understand how empty one’s ring finger can fee).

BUT, I just don’t get how something that looks blingy for example is going to make me any safer in a situation where the BAD GUYS aren’t going to be any less interested in something that sparkles and is fake vs real (have this crazy vision of someone trying to convince them that the Diamonds on my stand-in ring are fakes, or the watch Mr TTR is sporting is really a “fake” Rolex he bought at a flea market).  As if anyone would care, or that would make us any less a target and safer.

I would probably get a stand in for this situation. And by stand in, I mean plain band.

I wore mine on the beach before and a piece of sand got stuck down in the setting and it would never ever come out, and since then I refuse to wear my rings near sand.
