I had one years ago for a suspected cyst. I have another one scheduled in November at the same time as my yearly appt just to make sure everything’s still good, I guess.

@slicey19:  Hi fellow Germany resident!  I’ve had several U/S with my various docs…mostly for cysts.  My OB/GYN did 2 b/c she found a small fibroid and my RE has done a couple as well to check my ovaries.  The last time (was a f/u for a polyp) she told me she couldn’t see my right ovary (the one she really wanted to see) b/c I had JUST ovulated.  I’m supposed to go back on CD 7 so she can see it before O.

I’ve heard that German docs are more persistant with U/S than U.S. docs.  They apparently (at least in my city) do them during the ENTIRE pregnancy which has freaked out a lot of my American friends.  I guess in the U.S. they only do an internal exam the first appt. then switch to external but not here!  I’m used to it except the fact that both my doctors don’t have blinds on the windows….and their offices face other buildings!

I had one for the first time in July at my first well-woman exam overseas.  I’d never had this done in the US, and I’m not yet TTC; it seemed like it was a normal part of the routine exams here.  I just kind of assumed it was a European thing!

I had one but not because of TTC.  I was having period problems and it was nice to set my mind at rest.  It showed that one ovary is perfectly healthy and had ovulated recently – HURRAH! And the other, although slightly polycystic was also in alright nick. What came out of it? I don’t have endometritis like my doctor thought – HURRAH!  He also advised that I not wait until I am in my mid-thirties to have children (just in case there is a problem), which was nice to know at 21. (Nice as in I still had 10 years, just not 15, makes for planning. Not TTC yet though).  It’s a bit uncomfortable but quick and painless.

I had a vaginal ultrasound in my last gyneocologist visit last year – here it’s done at every gyneo appointment.  I’ll be honest, I have never EVER had such a thorough check as I did my first time in Greece.  Excellent doctors!
