I have two gift cards from Christmas to a very fine restaurant , we will use them the week BEFORE Valentine’s Day to celebrate. I can’t stand the crowds that day and/ or the special menu’s. I’m not fussy about this day and could really care less.

We are going snowboarding. We are going to the resort I used to have a season pass for and used to go to every weekend in Fukushima (before the earthquake and the power plant happened and I got evacuated and moved to Tokyo, where I met him and shared  love of snowboarding with him). It will be the first time ive been back since the earthquake and it holds a lot of great memories for me. So I’m really excited to are it with him!

it also helps that we are staying in the hotel right I front of he resort! It’s really posh!

thelegojedi:  Awesome! Ski in and ski out is the only way to go. (In your case ride in, ride out lol). I’ve never skied in Japan, what’s it like?

We are going to New Orleans in February to celebrate a friend’s 30th and the Finger Lakes in August to celbrate his, so I’m trying to keep Valentine’s Day very low key this year. When we first started dating neither one of us planned on getting married so we started doing the traditional anniversary gifts on Valentine’s Day. Usually they are small gifts, but it’s a cute tradition that we do every year.

My FMIL’s birthday is on Valentine’s day, and if I’m being honest, I use it as a cop out on why we don’t do anything for V day. It’s 10000% easier to explain to someone “Oh, it’s my MIL’s birthday so we’re taking her to dinner” than to explain that I don’t really like the holiday and I don’t want to compete for reservations with everyone else out there.

hopeful2016:  we are going to dinner 😁  But we always go out anyway, so we will try out a nice new restaurant or one of our favorites for special occasions.

in years past, we would get each other cutsie stuff, but we both agreed it’s totally unnecessary since we already show our love for each other everyday. I didn’t want him buying me anymore ridiculou priced flowers marked up like 300% just for vday!!
