So this will be our last V-Day before the manfriend goes of to Marine Boot camp in April. I was wondering what should I get him for Valentine’s Day this year? The first year I got him a really nice gun-metal colored watch by Kenneth Cole. (It was funny too because the manfriend ALSO ended up getting me a DKNY watch and we opened our presents at the same time and were ROTFL for days…) Last year I got him tickets for the UFC Fan Expo (he’s a big, Huge, GIGANTIC fan) and paid for the hotel and stuff. But I’m sort of out of ideas for this year. I feel like if I get him some sort of material good, he won’t have a lot of time to use it… since he leaves pretty soon.
Any ideas from the hive???? I’d definitely love some suggestions! 🙂

We’re trying to save money (wedding, honeymoon, house) so we decided we’d just do a nice dinner this year. But since I pack his lunch every morning, I’m going to make him chocolate covered strawberries, cut his sandwich into a heart, and write him a cute little note so that he’s surprised when he gets to work 🙂

I didn’t have much money to spend on extras, so last year (this year we are going on a short vacation the weekend before and that will be our valentines day gift to each other) I made my husband a card:
There was of course writing to it, but that’s a bit on the personal side. 😛
The year before, we were in different countries, so I wanted to send him something a bit more then a typical card. I made a valentines day card scrapbook:
Sorry it’s so small, but there were so many pages, this would have become waaaaay longer then I meant! Here’s a link to the set if you want to see more details: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157613456198884/ FYI the pictures of the notes have been set to private, so you won’t be able to see those 2 pages.
For Christmas 2009, I did a scrapbooked calendar for my then fiance since again, we were in different countries. I loved how it came out! I think it’s a great idea for a gift especially if you are going to be apart for a bit. Here’s my calendar:
Here’s a pic of how the full page looks together and then a pic of the notes I wrote in the calendar part of the page:
I made all of these with stuff I had on hand for the most part. The exceptions were that I bought the binding/covers for the v-day scrapbook card – cost $6 – and I bought the calendar – cost $1 (I love Targets dollar spot!). The pictures in the scrapbook card are from trips Anton and I have been on together, and the pictures in the calendar are ones that my mom helped me take specifically for the calendar. 🙂 I tried to go with a common theme that each month is known for wherever I could. 😀

What about writing a series of love letters and sealing them all in envelopes (or just folding the paper over and taping them to save space) for him to take with him, and he can open one every day or something.
You could date them and do a fun “theme” like every Monday letter is something you love about him and why, every Tuesday is a sexy fantasy you want to play out when he comes home, every Wednesday is a hope you have for your future together, Thursday is telling him something he didn’t know about you before, Friday is … you get the picture!
It would be a gift that keeps on giving.

Wow dodgercpkl you are sooo crafty. i’m definitely not as crafty as you, but I do like the idea of making something meaningful, rather than a big ticket item that he won’t use for a while. 🙂 Thank you for the ideas ladies. You guys are most helpful. 😀
Now I’m off to Michael’s and Joann’s to look for some ideas.

I’m making mine a video/photo clip movie set to music. I’m going to use Take Me There by Rascal Flatts as the background music since that song is special to us and then I’m going to gather a bunch of pictures of myself. I’d like to do a montage starting with pictures from when I was little and end with pictures of us. Sort of like sharing with him things from my past and growing up (since it goes with the song lyrics).
In the past I’ve made him a scrapbook with pictures of us from vacations and also a jar that I filled with 365 small pieces of paper (each one had a reason why I love him written on it… one for each day of the year).

@purplebee: Oooo! I completely forgot about that! It’s not one I did myself, but one that someone kindly offered to do for me and I like how it came out and my hubby loved it! I’d post it, but apparently it’s been removed from YouTube and I didn’t download it. 🙁 But yeah, that’s a great idea as well! 🙂
