It seems as though everyone I know celebrates V-day. Now, it’s my father’s birthday so that’s probably a large influence- but I’ve never really cared about it.
Who else doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s day? If you do, why do you feel it’s important (or fun)?

I don’t celebrate Valentines day. Simply because there is way too much hype about it. Restaurants are packed, you can’t even have dinner with your SO. The price of flowers skyrocket and eveything else related to V-day. Plus, people always give me chocolate and it gives me migraines (I love chocolate and I can’t help to eat it). I think its kinda cheesy to celebrate anyways.

@missfrillycoat: i think it’s such a consumer holiday. last year my SO went over the top–cards, candy, stuffed animals and a surprise singing telegram. this yr we discussed it and we’re not celebrating with consumer items. id like to go see the vow. for him ill write a love letter.

@missfrillycoat: Fiance and I don’t feel the need to celebrate it. I’d rather him spoil me on a random day of his choice and not because it’s expected.

We celebrate it. : ) We’re that really annoying gushy couple — and FH is a sucker for holidays! We’re practically forced to celebrate it now, since it’s when he proposed, LOL!

We don’t really celebrate, but I wish we did. Every year we are on our new years resolution diet, so eating out isn’t fun. Plus, you can’t get a reservation anyways. It’s also the week before our dating anniversary so we kind of forget about Vday.

We celebrate. But I just like excuses to buy people stuff and have dinner, that’s about it. 🙂

We do! We don’t get each other any huge gifts or anything. I get him a picture calendar and he gets me flowers. It’s also an excuse for us to go out to dinner which we love doing :o) So another excuse to spend time together for us!

we usually do something around valentines day but not necessarily on the exact day. last year we celebrated it the week before to avoid the manic rush at all the good restaurants.

we celebrate it, but not the consumer-ish way.
I mean we don’t/have never bought each other flowers/teddy bears/ boxes of chocolate. We’ll get each other a small nice gift and a home made card
like a book, movie etc. This year i’m getting DH Astronaut Ice cream and a silk pillow case.

We do random nice things for each other and have date nights on a regular basis, so we just don’t see the point of Valentine’s Day. In our opinion you shouldn’t need a commercialized holiday to remember to be sweet and considerate to each other or waste a bunch of money on overpriced novelties to impress your partner, and if you do, then that dozen roses and box of chocolates is just a band-aid on a bigger problem.
We’ll give each other silly home-made cards for kicks, but that’s about it.

We don’t really celebrate it. We usually stay in and make dinner, maybe watch a cheesy movie. I like to do cute-sy things like making heart shaped cupcakes and a silly card. But we don’t go out for an expensive meal or buy big gifts, just cute little things at home.
