Ziggy2112 :  The Pipe Shop at the North Van is beautiful!
The only issue I had with it was that there are no washrooms in the building?
How are you handling that?
Also – it is $5,000 for just the space with no tables / chairs?
Thanks!

604bee :  Hey!  It’s actually being reno’d right now with estimated completion date of April 1st.  They’ve added bathrooms and a kitchen!  I guess it’s 5k now, my rate is $4200 (less on the off chance the bathrooms aren’t finished).  If not finished, and in previous years, they provided washroom trailers.  They’re decent trailers, if you go to the Friday night markets it’s the same ones.  But they’ll be finished in a month or so anyways.

And yep no tables and chairs. Our caterer is Truffles who are providing them.  They were the most affordable caterer we could find.

Ziggy2112 :  Thanks for being so helpful! You really helped me out!
You must be so excited since your date is coming up! Post photos!

Do you know what the Pipe Shop’s plans are with this wall?

<div>I hope the wall does not permanently block the large windows – that is one of the most attractive features!</div>

<div>How are you handling changing / bride room? Not sure if they would have one after renos?</div>

604bee :  No prob!!  I will definitely be doing a recap.

Yes the wall is still there, but on the opposite side from the water-view windows.  So in front of the bathrooms/kitchen.  Our ceremony will be in front of those windows, they better not cover them up haha!!  There’s apparently going to be feature lighting on it which will look cool!

I’m staying at the Pinnacle hotel so getting ready there!  (But I also live about six blocks away lol)

I’m in Vancouver and our budget is 10,000 so we can’t do most of these venues!! We are paying for it ourselves and I just don’t see any reason to go into debt or even use up all our savings.

Have you checked out the Chinese bunkhouse in Richmond? $800 and the shipyards will make gorgeous photos. You could also do the net loft if you want a sit down dinner for over 100. I think it’s like 1500?

We are currently doing Trout Lake but I DO NOT love the noise from the nearby playground. Trout lake will run us about 1000-1500. However, we may be able to get a dream venue that’s just opening up. If it’s possible ( we’ll find out in a week or so) I’ll post here.

I’m a Vancouver bride too! I’m getting married on a family property in pemberton though so I didn’t do a ton of research on pricing. But here are some places to look into that you might not have thought of/heard of that I think are decently priced:

-I know of people that have gotten married at the Wise Hall in East Van if you’re into something more casual
-Belgard Kitchen does receptions in a really cool open/industrial room
-Gleneagles Golf Course (it’s in West Van, but I don’t think it’s too pricey..And you can get hitched at Whytecliff or other really pretty seaside areas nearby)

The Pipe Shop looks really cool as well.

Where is this Vancouver swap page you speak of? Is that facebook, or on here?

Just curious for other Vancouver brides- How much is your reception (food + drink) costing you?

I never even thought about renting a place and decided to go with a restaurant instead feeling like a caterer and liqour licenses etc would have been a headache and too $$$ but now I’m curious.

For food and drink I didn’t want to exceed $150 per head. That, of course, includes the venue because it’s in a resto.  I’m having about 100-150 people at my wedding.

How about you????

it does end up costing a bit more, but not because of the actual catered food (comparable to restaurants / hotels), but the venue / rentals that come with it

from my research – here is the best “package deal” in terms of budget

– Best – restaurants / golf course – venue, chairs / tables / staff all included, good food – but if you start going over 100 people, hard to find restaurant venues, lots of golf courses though

– hotels – food pricing a little higher, but viewed as all inclusive with venue and staffing – usually reasonable.

– own venue / caterer – venues in Vancouver tend to charge $2,000 – $6,000 on standalone rental, then on top you need to add on catering + rentals/ staff (approx $150 / head)

the venue rental fee is a pretty big dent
no option to get the venue fee waived based on minimum spend
