If this is your only time visiting Van then definitely do the touristy one in front of the cauldron 😛 The location of the cauldron is very close to the beginning of stanley park and theres a gorgeous walk along the water.

Gastown is my favourite place in Van because of all the older looking buildings and exposed brick. There is the rose garden in stanley park. English bay and the seawall are nice.

In January I would expect rain, although it could be nice. But expect rain. Almost never snows here so don’t worry about that. Invest in a super cute umbrella and some gum boots and that’d make for an amazingly adorable shoot!!

eizb:  it doesn’t get very cold here in the winter compared to winnepeg.

January will likely be 0-12 degrees, rainy, and overcast.

Ive seen some cool gastown photos in the rain at night.

If you go up to the mountains where it is snowy, you can take some cool photos there too.

If you hire an experienced photographer they should have suggestions for where to take photos that time of year and Time of day.

eizb:  I’m actually not sure when it comes to flowers specifically. We do have many trees out here that don’t lose their green during the winter months, so you’ll probably have a nice mix of branches and greenery.

There won’t be much in bloom in January, so I’d recommend seeing if your photographer can drive you up to grouse or cypress mountain to take some pictures up there. The view will be amazing and there will probably be snow too. Stanley Park will be nice for sure but in the winter won’t have the same look as it does in the spring or summer. Don’t count on there being snow anywhere near Stanley Park or by the water, it’s probably a 90% chance that the ground will be bare and it will just be rainy or misty. Sometimes up on cypress or grouse you can get above the clouds (meaning the clouds settle low on Vancouver and the higher altitudes are fully above them) which is nothing short of amazing and would make for killer pics.

eizb:   Hi!  We did our engagement and wedding photos in Gastown. http://www.gastown.org/  There are lots of really cool buildings to use as backdrops!  If you want some snow, I would agree with pp to try the local mountains. They have great views of the city!
