I was really hoping that Vancouver would win. I saw the riots it was insane, but on the bright side I heard that there is a facebook group that is for cleaning the city and 8,000 people joined.

I hope a lot of people were arrested.  I saw a picture of a guy throwing a mannequin through a window display at a shop on Granville and just felt sad, and I’m not even from Vancouver!  The college students in my hometown rioted several times after we lost in the Final Four and it was just so stupid…why destroy all that property because of the outcome of a freaking sporting event?  It’s pathetic.

Watching that from Boston was terrible, everyone’s talking about it here. Sad that a few reckless fans had to ruin their city like that 🙁

As a hockey fan and a proud Canadian I am embarassed that this happened in my own country.  We claim we are peaceful people, kind to all, but what occurred last night was not peaceful or kind, it was disgusting.

Shame on those who rioted and shame on them for causing mayhem under the guise of hockey, hockey does not represent what those hooligans did.

Boston won, fair and square.

@Anxiouspeanut: I totally agree with you, they are not true fans and shame on them for doing that.

eta: the first thing I heard on the radio this morning was “The Bruins have done it and Vancouver is burning.” Just made me sad.

Such an embarrassment. They are not Canucks fans, and the ones who were from Vancouver proper are not true Vancouverites. Nobody I know wanted to watch our city burn. It’s a shame the riot of ’94 was so glorified in those people’s tiny little brains; I’m pretty sure this would have happened regardless of the game’s outcome.

I’m glad at least some people elsewhere realize we’re not a bunch of crazed loons who can’t handle losing a game. Thanks to a small percentage of the population acting like neanderthals, everyone seems to think all Canucks fans and Vancouverites are pathetic losers whose version of a temper tantrum is trashing their own city.

It’s actually crazy! I really hope this riot puts some things into perspective for people with all the attention over the next few days. There have been people rioting across the globe for basic human rights, but we’re so spoilt and surrounded by abundance that the only thing we have to riot about is a sporting loss?? That’s sad.

My cousin had to walk home from work and she said that she got accidently bear mased TWICE by police. That shit is crazy and she had no other way to get home..

In 94 it was the same.  I lived in the heart of it at Robson and Thurlow at the time.

I am quite sure if a good number of the assholes had been tasered this time and you had them flopping around on the ground in front of the other idiots that would have sent a lot of people packing PDQ
